My guess is Amazon.UK is very confused. They may literally have the 3rd world cs running the site.

Sometime ago, Amazon Germany's shipping rates to the USA seemed to have dropped to reasonable rates. Just tried pricing 10 titles and the cheapest shipping was $45 !! Did any policy change again ?

It appears either Thursday or Friday both DE and UK rates jumped. UK didn't quite go back to Priority only levels, but it appears Std Shipping is now £6.98 + 1.49 ea added item.

The last I looked at Germany was a couple weeks ago and it was maybe a bit more than pre-Covid, pre-Postal System Blackmail, but within 20% of those rates. If 10 titles are now $40+, then Germany appears to be in the same boat but a little worse than UK, 10 items on UK would be around £20 (?$26 now) vs £12 (approx $15-16) in Jan.
If I remember, Germany 10 items in Jan would have been around 6-8EUR ($10), and $15-20 a couple weeks ago, so it appears they definitely got hit harder. My last order from Germany was in mid 2019 when I got 20 items shipped for under 10EUR -- I'd forgotten their shipping on multiple items was so much cheaper than UK

I just looked at DE and noticed a couple odd things -- 1st item is 12.95 EUR shipped + 2.8 EU ea added for standard, but after 3rd item Global Expedited is actually cheaper than Std or AGS. With 10 items I got around 38 EUR Std and 22EUR expedited which actually isn't terrible.($26)

Has anyone in the USA had recent experiences with delivery from the UK? Good or Bad?

Re: International Blu-ray deals

I haven't had any problems. I have had 2 deliveries from Zavvi in the last week (orders made around Sept 2) -- I have a dozen more due in the next week that were mostly dispatched 9/7 from their Birthday B1G1F sale in early Sept. As usual Zavvi ships everything one at a time. All the items shipped starting 9/4 through 9/11 so the less than 2 week turnaround was a bit of a nice surprise.

All the AmazonUK deliveries from the summer were fine -- most through DHL (one UPS) since those were during the Priority Only orders.
I did have a couple leftover preorders delivered over the summer made before the shutdown in the late March that were paid for as AGS or Std shipping, but all were upgraded to Priority. Those preorders shipping a week after Release Date, but appeared
to be timed to deliver in the original estimated delivery dates. If you paid for Std shipping and the deliver was expected 2 weeks after release date, Amazon held the package until 3-4 days before the Estimated Window then shipped it Priority. If you paid for
Priority originally it seemed to ship on or before Release day. I actually have one more package from a January Pre-Order that released last week with an Est Window 9/25 - 9/29 that hasn't shipped yet, but I'm expecting dispatch email this week.

I ordered a couple of items from Amazon UK while shipping was at the "old normal" prices a few weeks back. They split the order (one item was OOS). The first arrived about a week after getting the shipment notice, the 2nd took around 2 1/2 weeks to arrive after receiving shipment notice. About normal. But both were apparently a new shipper with "tracking" (nothing when you clicked it but looking it up it appeared to be a German shipper). Once it hit the states you could see *some* of the movement with the "out for delivery" part being accurate.

I had no issues this past summer with CD purchases from the UK.

Re: International Blu-ray deals

I placed a fairly large order for cheap BFI and etc from Amazon UK - probably 10 or 12 discs altogether (many was OOS at the time). They've begun shipping and so far most of them seem to be arriving via DHL. --Peter

Re: International Blu-ray deals

Amazon Germany is running a '4 for €21,44' on 195 BD titles at the time of this writing - the majority of them are Koch and Explosive Media releases (mostly Universal and Fox/MGM licensed titles and some Sony) with a few Studio Canal releases thrown in as well

  • As is standard Amazon practice when there is a package deal like this, VAT does not get taken off each title, instead every set of 4 titles qualifying for the promotion will be priced at €21,44
  • Promotional discount applies for every set of 4 titles
  • Watch out as some are German titles only with German (other European) audiotracks and subtitles
  • Many of the Koch/Explosive Media releases are Region A/B (please perform your research)
  • Many titles do not have US releases - some examples: Brokedown Palace, Shining Through, Defiant Ones, Jet Pilot, Cromwell, Circus World, Honorary Consul, Cowboy Way, Tickle Me, Rare Breed
  • There are titles from Universal's licensing with Koch which Shout released in the USA for far more expensive prices
  • There are US OOP titles like No Way Out and Follow that Dream
  • There are 4 Shaw brothers titles for the martial arts purists (region B only)
  • The Third Man is region free and is the same excellent 4k restoration if anyone still does not have it.
  • 'Waterloo' says can't be delivered to the USA
  • Almost all the Fox western titles can be blind bought as you can forget their release happening here in the USA, not to mention future unavailability on international markets as well given the Disney takeover (several of the Fox licensed Koch titles have already gone OOP too)

I ordered a total of 38 titles to maximize shipping value - 20 from the above offer and 18 others I had in my cart. I chose AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping and was charged €35,74 (at least €20 more than what it would have been on standard shipping before the shipping rate spike) Still distributing that shipping charge across 38 titles didn't make it seem too steep.

Amazon also adds a currency conversion fee if you pay in USD. If your card has no currency conversion charges, use it by paying in EUR instead of USD

Re: International Blu-ray deals

Also from Amazon Germany - found another '4 for €29,24' offer with 605 titles qualifying. Offer runs 07 Sep. 2020 to 04 Oct. 2020.

Base.com is no longer shipping outside EEA as on 10/1, preorders cancelled

Non-EEA Fulfilment

We have been experiencing an increasing number of legal challenges and other issues with our shipping of orders outside of the European Economic Area (EEA). Our suppliers transact with us on the basis that goods will only be sold within the EEA.

These issues have been compounded by: Covid-19 related delivery constraints and costs, an increasing number of lost parcels, local taxation changes, and customs delays. All this has led our Board to take the decision that, with immediate effect we will cease taking orders for countries outside of the EEA.

From the 1st October, we will cease to ship orders outside of the EEA. Any orders that are still outstanding will be cancelled.

We regret we have had to take this action and apologise for any inconvenience we have caused you.
Not a deal but got this email. Just order from them for first time. The 3 latest Masters of Cinema I have on preorder with Base.com.

I blame this on the USA gvt. Hopefully international mailing will return to normal in 2021. Can't elaborate without getting into politics...............

Wow, that really sucks. I've bought a few very hard to find titles from them over the last 10 years.

I don't know what the price difference is on the films, but Eureka is still doing free ship to the entire world as of early Tuesday. Eureka did raise their prices a couple months ago, likely to cover the free shipping.

Just checked base.com and my order is showing canceled, Looks like they never charged my CC.
Only received that one email.

I usually buy direct from Eureka ,But Base was a little cheaper even when including shipping.

Pre-order, Due for release on 09 November 2020
Ishiro Honda Double Feature: The H-Man & Battle in Outer Space (Blu-ray) (x1) , £18.33 + £2.99 shipping

Before postage went up, I believe the 2 for deals were cheaper. I used to order a lot from MOC. I still will order from time to time )I want the Lugosi set for 1), but the postage (again mostly the USA's fault; not royal mail) is pricing me out of a lor of stuff.

Zavvi US has a lot of Disney BD3D's (including all recent releases) on sale at 2 for $20. Shipping is a flat $9.99 per order. Buying just 2 titles isn't that great a deal, but if you can get 4, 6, 8, etc. titles that you want, it comes out a bit cheaper than I usually see on Amazon UK sales.

Thanks for that. I was able to get the remaining three titles I needed, all the most recent ones. Doubled on ONWARD just to make the deal better, and I can flip that one here for a decent profit.

Shipping to Canada was only £3.99 (less than $7 CDN).

Out of curiosity, i switched the site's settings to CDN dollars and the overall cost on the order was about $12 higher, approx. $70 CDN versus $58 CDN.

I bit on some 3d titles, and then I noticed they're also having an Arrow B1G1 sale with most being priced at $20. Not bad at all. I ordered enough that the shipping came out to less than $1 per title. I can live with that.

Eureka/MOC is having a 2 for 20 pounds sale (including world wide shipping) on horror titles.

5 I especially recommend:

Nosferatu
Faust
Island Of Lost Souls
Cabinet Of Dr Caligari
The Old Dark House

4 of the 5 above are dvd & blu.

For those who can play RB, MOC is every bit as good as Criterion & much cheaper.
