International Blu-ray deals

I've been shopping region free boxsets on Amazon.co.uk, and there are some really good deals on there. Shipping takes longer than Amazon.com for obvious reasons but is very reasonable.

Alien Anthology: ~$23

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alien-Anthol...5524015&sr=8-1

Batman Anthology: ~17

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Batman-Pictu...5524047&sr=1-1

X-Men Quadrilogy: ~$20

http://www.amazon.co.uk/X-Men-Quadri...f=pd_cp_d_h__1

Spider-Man Trilogy: ~ $23

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spider-Man-T...pd_sim_d_h__49

Also decent deals on boxsets for:

Matrix
Harry Potter
Star Wars
Bourne
Back to the Future
Planet of the Apes
Lethal Weapon

Be sure to do your homework on what's included compared to US versions and make sure you're getting region free. I'm very happy with the Alien set.

I looked on the site, it says these discs are Region 2/3, will they play on a regular player that's not region free here?

My order total was £44.74 (actually used my UK CC, so that was my actual payment)

But converted to dollars

Oh, actually I now get $69.38 (1.55), but never realised Amazon used a different rate - though as I say, I paid in Sterking anyway

Thanks, hariseldon! I'm glad I asked first.

Yeah, like I said in the OP...do a bit of homework first. For the most part, you'll find at least one review on Amazon confirming US compatibility if that's the case.

Torchwood complete series 1-4 can be had for $61 and change. That's much better than the $63 for series 1-3 from amazon.com.

I'm sure this has been asked one thousand times, but let me make it one thousand and one... A "Region Free" disc set will play on any US player? I have a Sony, -I don't know if that's Region A or Region Free ...but in theory will it play "Region Free" sets?

weird, no idea about the millennium trilogy

i have region free player, so i didnt hestitate to buy it, that being said, it usually requires a code to play region B stuff, though just tested again and i dont have to enter the region B code for these to work.

Mission Impossible is 17 pounds sterling but I might hold off since I don't really like the second one and I'm sure a new set will include #4.

What credit card do you have? I thought they all charged a 3% conversion fee nowadays...

Its only $19.99 on the US site. That is much cheaper than 17 pounds

^ Thanks for that. I have a Citi Visa Signature Card. Perhaps that doesn't have the foreign transaction fee. I'll have to look into it...

EDIT: Darn, it does have a fee. :( I do have a Discover Card, but it's a Walmart Discover Card, so not sure if that follows the same fee guidelines. I think I may get a Capitol One card before my next overseas vacation...

Good point: I forgot I'd been following the U.S. thread for a while and decided not to buy, but I revived my interest in the set when my kids showed some willingness to see the films.

Ordered the Millennium Trilogy Extended Ed. on 12/20. It shipped on 12/21 and I received it today. Total for me was $29.13 plus any possible fees from my card.

Shipping wise, not too bad considering it shipped during the holiday season.

Considering the quality of Miracle Day I'd rather pay 2 extra bucks to not have it... sure, I'll probably add it to my collection in the future, but it was just not good ol' BBC Torchwood.

It should be completely compatible with all Blu-ray players, too, since it was shot primarily in North America... in 24p (and none of that 1080i/50 crap), AFAIK.

Not a blu-ray deal, but Amazon UK currently has the 9-DVD Harold Lloyd collection for under $17 shipped:

For anyone interested, The Godfather trilogy goes for around $35 shipped. Pretty good bargain, albeit slightly less agressive.

Peter, thank you so much for posting this deal! It turned out to be $15.00 shipped! A fantastic bargain given that the U.S. set is OOP and going for over a hundred dollars in the Marketplace. This set is comparable, missing only two of his sound films.

Amazon UK does NOT take Discover and I wasn't able to use my Cap One card to waive the conversion fee so I went with an AMEX at 2.7%.

I thought that somebody had said that this release was Region B locked.

I believe it is. I haven't had a chance to find out for myself, but luckily I have a couple of region free players that should handle it regardless.

I've read that series 4 is 1080/50i, which depending on your player, might not play.
