re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27

Is there a Bluray.com thread with all these drops? I'm looking at the front page and see the typical 3 pages, but maybe I'm missing something.

Here's the link. The drops are shown in reverse chronological order. This is configured to show only titles that have either dropped to new low prices or returned to previous low prices. There is a drop-down if you want to change it to see all titles that have dropped in price.

EDIT: Looks like you found it already!

All right, I'm going to double-check here. The Toy Story Trilogy 3D set is NOT able to play 2D versions of the films? I'm able to play 3D content on my projector, but I would still like the option to watch them in regular 2D on my TV should the need arise.

Correct. The Trilogy Set ONLY includes the 3D disc of each film. If you buy the individual releases, you get 3D Blu+2D Blu+DVD+Digital copy, but the box set only has the 3D versions.

Thanks for confirming for me. I still find that weird. I thought studios were required to include 2D versions on 3D releases. I wouldn't mind if the 2D option was on the same disc ... Oh well. I guess it just saves me some money for right now.

I don't think it was ever required by anyone, but most 3D releases have included a 2D version, either on the same disc or on a separate one. There have been exceptions before though. More info can be found in this thread:

I'm thinking they probably released that box set for people like me, who already owned the films, but just wanted to get the 3D versions. Less discs "should" help keep the cost down. I was able to buy the 3D box set for $34 from B&N a few weeks ago.

American Beauty $9.99. Tempted but I've heard a lot of lukewarm things about the video quality.

They also have had price drops on a number of music/concert BDs. Scrolling through the list on blu-ray.com finds them.

I went ahead and pre-ordered the 3D Puss N Boots with the coupon hoping for a further price drop before it releases.

Most 3D TVs can convert 3-D to 2-D.

Correct. I've got a 3D projector that I use outside, but I only have a 2D TV inside. I'd like a version of the movies that I can watch inside or outside.

I'll just have to wait on some deals on the individual releases, although it wouldn't shock me if it might end up being cheaper buying both of the sets. I'll just have to keep my eyes open for future Gold Box deals.

It's odd to me that Shark Night, a movie shot in 3D, doesn't have a 3D version. I'm sure it'll come eventually though.
