Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I was too tired yesterday to drive to other BL's. I do have 3 copies of Double Indemnity (lol), but they're all on dvd.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

So Big Lots is worth a visit for some great deals on BLU's?
Last time that I visited one, I felt like I was shopping in someone's messy garage.

Depends on the store(s) near you. Some are organized, nice, and clean and others look like you describe. My connections at the store here have indicated corporate is in a push to clean them up and modernize them. They've reorganized here but no remodeling yet.

Selection is also store dependent. Since it's closeout/overstock stuff the distribution is somewhat lacking. There've been dozens of titles mentioned that I've never seen here (and it's a pretty good one for having a larger media selection).

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Totally store dependent. The thing I find interesting with the new "superstores" (we have 2 of them) is while they are attractive, there is a ton of empty floor space. I was taught in retail that one of the bottom lines is sales per square foot, so the choice of lack of shelves &/or not full shelves makes little sense to me.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Damn this thread. I usually don't shop at BL but it looked like they got some new inventory so I checked out the one near me and wound up with four movies, including my first Marilyn Monroe Blu.

$3 The Gift Blu-ray
$3 Clear and Present Danger Blu-ray
$3 The Last Airbender Blu-ray
$5 Some Like it Hot Blu-ray

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I hit the one by my house. More restocks on the Monroes, lots of John Wayne (both blu & multi pack dvd), lots of Star Trek movies with the TV cast (#1 on blu & 2-4 on dvd), & Hitchcock's The Birds on blu.

With the $5 off coupon, I bought The Birds (I hope it's good), Bus Stop (another of the few Monroe's I really like along with Misfits, Niagra & the best of them all: Clash By Night; I'd love to have that on blu!), a set of Knives & some food.

I hope you like it. I've always found it to be kind of cheesy - especially some of the visual effects (and it was nominated for an Oscar for those - I still shake my head in wonderment over that one). It's never scared me in the least and is one of my least favorite Hitchcock movies.

My sixth grade teacher showed it to my class back in the day and it really scared me. I have been uneasy around birds ever since.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I purchased Star Trek The Compendium 2 disc set which is the first 2 Chris Pine Star Trek movies. The sticker price was $5 but it rang up as $2.88. There were no signs so I don't know if this is a BF deal or clearance. Also have no idea of what else may be included. I did see blu rays of Good Fellas and Love Actually. Again I don't know if they be included in any sale.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

For anyone in the Cincinnati area: The former Toys-R-US store at Eastgate has been converted to one of the largest Big Lots I've ever seen. I was there yesterday and they had more than 100 Blue-Rays (including most of those mentioned above). In addition, there were at least 2 copies of Star Trek - The Compendium 2 (Chris Pine series) on Blu (marked $5) and multiple 3D movies on Blu like World War Z, Sponge Bob Squarepants Movie, Terminator Genisys, Hercules (featuring The Rock), and one of the more recent Star Trek movies.

I visited a Michigan location on the weekend and there were signs posted on the rack stating that all $5.00 titles were now $2.88 and all $3.00 titles were now $1.88, so I'm assuming this is an official sale and/or clearout. Paired with the '$5 off $15' coupon, plus some previously reduced discs reduced even further (50¢, 75¢), I was able get a good stack (several for resale) for $10, including some more 3D sets. Even at those prices, though, they still had a lot of stuff that wasn't moving. Would be nice if they could clear all of it out and get some new titles into the mix.

Incidentally, I received a survey from BL last week asking what kinds of 'bonus offers' I'd like to see, including what types of items I'd like to receive free after spending a certain amount of money. I'm guessing that's going to become a regular thing for them now, especially to clear out stuff that isn't selling fast enough anymore, like movies.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I can confirm everything $5 rings up at $2.88, $3 rings up at $1.88. I saw one blu ray marked $2.88 "Panic in the Streets". I wish the selection was better but great prices.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Went to the local store today. The sale is on in the West Coast also. I asked if they were going to be putting out movies on T-day or on Friday. The clerk answered that they were already out. I saw very few new titles. It is possible that the clerk didn't know.

I bought:

blu-ray
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (original cast) $2.88
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes $2.88
Castaway $2.88

DVD
Star Trek 3 film (@'s 2-4 with original cast.) $2.88
Carousel/Lilliom 2 Disc ( I am ASSUMING that this is the Fritz Lang Lilliom, that's why I bought it) $2.88
Phantom Of The Opera )Hammer version) $1.88

They had a few other good titles that I already own. While I'm not a fan of either, I did see a couple John Wayne multi film dvd's & single film blu's, & a few Southpark seasons on dvd (wish I liked South Park, $2.88 for a season is pretty great!)

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Following up: Lilliom on DVD #2 of Carousel is the Fritz Lang 1934; imo that's a steal at $2.88 (though I'll likely never watch Carousel).

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Saw sign that said the sale is from 11/23 to 11/28 so ends on Thanksgiving Day. I guess its not a Black Friday sale.
