Gigli is a less significant film than Gigi
As for "Gigi" (1958), the reason it pops up on my radar screen is that several years later Gigi actress Leslie Caron starred in my favorite Cary Grant movie, Father Goose (1964): Lieutenant Stebbings RAN: "Mother Goose is requesting a chaplain." Commander Frank Houghton RAN: "A chaplain? Good heavens, he's killed her." Lieutenant Stebbings RAN: "No, sir. They want to get married." Commander Frank Houghton RAN: "Married? Goody Two-Shoes and the Filthy Beast?" ["Goody Two-Shoes" Catherine Freneau was played by Leslie Caron and "Filthy Beast" Walter Eckland was played by Cary Grant.] I don't know if I've ever seen Gigi, but I do remember seeing Leslie Caron's earlier movie Lili (1953) several decades ago. |
Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)
drq2's story definitely gave me reason to worry. I had about a dozen unopened items I was going to return to Amazon because after I ordered them there were better Christmas deals. However, thankfully 1 store (whose name I won't mention) saved my behind by taking back just about everything for store credit. That left me with only 2 Amazon BDs that nobody would take back, but I think I'll try Craigslist or eBay them. It's sad that I have to think of Amazon as a place I'd better be darn sure I never want to return anything.
Regarding multiple accounts, it would seem you could have one for each family member in your household who has a credit card matching his/her name. So if you have 2, then it's best to keep 1 account return-free. Regarding getting opened brand new movies, that happened to me once with District 9 BD, and since the disc was OK I didn't do anything about it (again because I'm aware of how Amazon tracks "favors" for customers and it's not good if you use "too many"). That case was very wrinkly, and people speculated that sometimes shrinkwrap machines mess up or the shrinkwrap tears off accidentally. In the unlikely event people in the warehouse are opening them, taking them home to watch, and putting them back, at least (so far) they are keeping them in good shape. It seems unlikely as I would guess Amazon is probably pretty strict and watchful of its employees in the warehouses (how watchful they are of their phone people may be another story). |

can someone change the title of this thread to the Amazon Bitching and Moaning Thread? that seems to be the emphasis of this thread lately.

Didn't there used to be a way to tell Amazon if you already owned something? I'd like to use it because I keep getting the same offers in my gold box for things I already own.

Can't you go through the suggestions list and tell them which ones you own?

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)
Lizard, you might be interested to know that Cary Grant once said that the character he played in FATHER GOOSE was the closest he ever came to playing himself.
Paul Newman said the exact same thing about the character he played in SLAPSHOT. |

Do you know how to do that?
Click "recommendations for you" (top of screen). Then click "see all recommendations." Select the checkboxes next to the items you already own. Finally, be sure to click "Refresh your recommendations" to apply the updates you made. |

Question: I ordered LET ME IN on blu-ray by itself for $19.99 and somehow got a $10 promotional credit, making it $9.99. I can't figure out what the promotion could've been, though. Any clues? |
Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

The $10 "Let Me In" discount that the previous poster tried to get and couldn't. As for how, -I didn't do anything special, -and there's nothing about a discount listed, -I just put it in the cart and when I went to the "Place Your Order" page, the item was 9.99.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)
Okay, thanks. I wasn't sure if you guys were getting the $10 off the order or an email after you placed the order with a $10 promo code.
