Picked up Secretary and BWP during lunch. Wouldn't scan. Wouldn't take the SKU's typed in manually, but then the cashier entered the item number on the price sticker, and they popped up, no problem. No manager/CS intervention required.

If Cuccinelli wasn't specific enough this is probably the right ruling. It's big that the judge said it was in principle a proper function of the AG office.

Expect to hear many cries of "exoneration" from the CAGW faithful.

Re: Best Buy Media Prices (August 29 - September 4, 2010)

Has anyone else noticed that perhaps their local Best Buy has mistakenly also released the first season of The Vampire Diaries early? I went on Friday to look for something else and was wandering through the aisles when I saw the DVD set on the shelf - probably 10 or 15 of them - so I went to check the Blu-ray section of the store, and, sure enough, they had their full stock of Blu-rays out as well. I decided to see if they'd sell it to me, and lo and behold, they did, which I found to be really exciting. Not sure how they made such a mix-up, but I'm happy with how I benefited from it.

Same situation when I bought the Open Water Double Feature yesterday. Didn't ring up, cashier types in the SKU on the price sticker and it shows up.

I went to Best Buy today, since I was told on the phone this morning that the issue had been corrected.

So I go after work today, and guess what? It wasn't.

I. Hate. Best. Buy.

The ad does say "New Release Offers Begin Tuesday".

Re: Best Buy Media Prices (August 29 - September 4, 2010)

I posted this in the announcement thread for these titles, but it's probably more appropriate in here instead.

I was in Best Buy saturday and they had all of the titles on the shelf, they were all marked at around $19.99. I went back sunday (I was seeing a movie nearby anyway) to pick them up. I grabbed all of them, but Bad Lieutenant and Anchorman weren't on the shelf. I looked on the customer computer and saw they had 4 copies of Bad Lieutenant, so I asked the employee that was around about it.

"Excuse me, this says you have Bad Lieutenant..."
"You mean the one that isn't coming out until tuesday?"
There was a bit of a pause. This was before I heard they changed the release date at the last minute.
At that point, my mom walked over and told me she found an endcap with all the movies, including B.L. and Anchorman.
We walked over and I picked up Anchorman. The BB employee told me to take a copy of B.L. also "Before he notices they're out". So I took one and he pulled the rest.

Of course, none of them rang up, the cashier had to put them in manually. Except my copy of High Tension didn't have a tag. He said he'd run over and get another one. He was gone for 10 minutes or so, and I noticed he was talking to the employee that pulled all the B.L. copies. When he came back he called the manager and said something about 'DVDs that weren't supposed to be out'.

So I got my copies of the lionsgate movies, but they pulled all of the rest after I bought them. What a mess.

So, I'm sorry if anyone tried to buy them in the Bellingham, WA store after about 1:00.

I was able to get 2001 Maniacs today even though I didn't think it was coming out until tomorrow. Luckily I got the last copy. Saved me from making a seperate trip.

I guess you can't/didn't see or ignored that number 1 beside it that leads to the fine print which states: "Dates subject to change. New release offers begin Tuesday".

Re: Best Buy Media Prices (August 29 - September 4, 2010)

Actually, I was the first one in this thread to point that out, actually. However, it's the point that they advertised it for Sunday, and then it wasn't ready.

The 'sand in the eye' part of it is, I called Best Buy's customer service number later on Sunday, and the guy talked to the person who does corrections based on what goes in to the Sunday ads, and checked his memos... there was nothing saying that we couldn't buy these discs on Sunday.

Listen, I am not taking sides and I'm just happy that I have my films.

Still, I live 2 miles from one BB that's a bit small and 5 miles from a big one. For me, anytime I can save some $, I try and do it.

I called the close store and explained to the manager that I'd seen the ad in advance and was wondering if he'd tell me how many copies they'd be getting of the 3 titles I wanted.

He told me 7 and then, because it came up in conversation that I needed to come back for House on Tuesday, so I'd just pick them all up at lunch.

He said, "Well remember that these exclusives are going on sale on Sunday."

I explained that blu rays didn't get released until Tuesday and he came back with a reply that made no sense. Something about them being new releases from blu that were also already released on DVD made them different. Huh? That's any BD catalog release and they usually come out on Tuesday's.

But this was the store manager and I wasn't about to try and debate him because they are so good at holding items and taking coupons, I don't want them being mad at me.

But for whomever got screwed by this, I don't blame them at all for blaming BB. They changed the release date in the middle of the night and from watch I've heard from friends most stores really didn't know what to do abs were not prepared.

As I reported, my BB didn't even call over a manager or ask me to explain anything. The girl typed in the SKUs and it went as smoothly as it could. But certainly not everyone had that experience and it doesn't seem to me like the "pushy" and "impatient" customers fault this time around.

All I'm saying is the ad has a disclaimer so don't be surprised if you can't get them until tomorrow. I'll admit the ad does seem contradictory.
Anyone with any history of purchasing at Best Buy knows it's a huge YMMV with everything: dates, price matching, coupons etc. so expect the worst and be surprised if it turns out in your favor.

I wonder if Target had these kinds of issues when they released their exclusive of Babies on Sunday.

1. Not sure how much interest there is in Babies thus fewer experiences/stories
2. Their ad clearly states it's coming out on Tuesday

The troubles BB is having is no doubt thanks to major communication issues between corporate changing it to Tuesday while some stores got the memo while others did not. It also doesn't help that they had, what, 8 exclusives going on?

I guess I'm lucky because I rarely have had issues with the store near me including this one. I feel for others as I have a short fuse with these kinds of things and what others are going through would drive me nuts.

Twas a joke...and the Target ad stated it was out on Sunday. Which I can assume is true since I saw a lot of copies there yesterday.

That should be on a big blue & yellow sign, right outside the entrance to every Best Buy.

That's what the sometimes annoying smilies are for.

Ah, I see. I saw it within the available on Tuesday but below Babies it says Sunday. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry - thought the stupidity of my comment would negate the usage of a smiley....

Now here's something dumb. I just got back from the Best Buy where I bought all the exclusives - they now have a white cloth covering the endcap?? I mean really? That's some lazy shit there.

Here's the problem: It's not the ad at this point for me. It's negligence on EVERY level at Best Buy.

1. I go to BB Sunday morning because of the ad, and the Blu-ray discs are on the shelf at 11:45AM, WITH the sales tags in front of them. I bring them to the register, and I can't buy them. The cashier did offer to hold them until Tuesday for me, and took my name.

2. I go home and later in the day when I have the opportunity I called to complain about the store - Not because of the ad goof -I know that was out of their hands. I complained because even though a customer came in at open apparently and had a shouting match with the manager already, THEY STILL hadn't removed the discs from the shelves (again, it was already 45 minutes since open). BB customer service heard the whole story, and checked into the store not selling the titles - They had NO notification that there was anything printed in error in the Sunday ad, nor were there any corrections that need be made.

3. I called the manager at the store itself right afterwards to ask what the real story is then. Some mumbo jumbo about it not scanning via the barcode. "How about the sku number then?" He told me some story about how it doesn't bode well for their inventory by doign it that way... which is nonsense. But, whatever. I asked him if Tuesday was the definite day, or if I'd have to worry about them going out before then. He said "If it's fixed in the system by tomorrow, we'll be selling them." OK. Cool.

4. I called the store this morning, and explained the situation from yesterday to the person I was talking with, and asked if the titles were now scanning for them and if they were selling them. She said "Yes, they're scanning now, I just tried, and they're available." So I made sure they still had my copies on hold. They didn't. "Well we don't hold things for people." So I explained to her I understood the whole 'first come first serve' thing, but I was THERE on the advertised day and THEY offered to hold it for me... I didn't even ask them to. She was arguing with me, so I asked for a manager. Well, I guess as soon as I asked for the manager, their rules magically changed so they could hold them for me, because she was then willing to do it. During this conversation, I also used the words, "I was wondering if I should be coming after work today to pick these up."

5. I went after work today to pick them up. And unsurprisingly, it turned out to be a big hassle yet again because the issue had not been fixed.

I see this all the time working in retail.. an item can be instock for months.. but once it hits the ad then all bets are off. Even happens if the item is just pictured and not at a sale price.

This would explain why two of my titles wouldn't ring up. The cashier got someone from DVD who had the product numbers in his iPod and punched them in. I didn't think anything of it until I just read more of this thread. I guess I got lucky.

went to a different best buy and got the Anchorman blu.... and lucky for me, they also had the Beauty and the Beast ironpack out early, so I snagged that too.
