Re: amazon uk deals

North By Northwest is the same disc. Same audio and subtitle options.

You can bank on just about all of WB's discs being the exact same (region-free, playable VC-1 encoded SD extras) between the US and the UK. I would have picked up that standard release a long time back if a family member hadn't gifted the Digibook release to me over the holidays last year.

Re: amazon uk deals

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I might go ahead and pick up NxNW and the Goonies now then, and just wait for the US release of Psycho next month. That UK cover is pretty terrible....yes, covers and cases, how fickle.

Re: amazon uk deals

not that the US version is great, but the UK "Cop Out" looks really terrible:

Re: amazon uk deals

Good price for Life, but a friend of mine bought it and it played fine on his standalone player but not at all on my PS3 (except for the BBC intro).

The UK BD of Life will not play on the vast majority of American players. Only the theatrical cut was included on the UK version of Walk The Line, whereas the American BD only has the director's cut included.

Re: amazon uk deals

The UK Axiom release of "Wings of Desire" is £7.99; I have the Criterion release and love everything about it except subtitles are only for the German; spoken English is not subtitled (as was the option on the MGM DVD). Does anyone know if the Axiom includes the spoken English subtitles? --Peter

You have that backwards. The UK release has the DC (which most seem to think is the superior cut of the film), and the US release is the theatrical version.

You have that backwards.....the US BD is a 1 disc release with the theatrical cut, while the UK/France/German/Scandinavian versions are all 2 disc releases with the extended cut....

Edit: HA HA! doctorthodt posted the exact same thing right before me, and we even used the same start to the sentence!!

Re: amazon uk deals

According to http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b, The Magnificent 7 - £11.91 at Amazon.uk
is region free, as is Prince Valiant at £10.15. Anyone have a read on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves? It's produced by the same company as Prince Valiant and The Black Shield of Fallsworth. For £10.15 at Amazon UK and not released in the USA that would be a great deal.

Also Tora! Tora! Tora! for £15.93, Star Trek 1: The Motion Picture for £10.47, Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier for £13.99 and My Best Friend's Wedding for £7.49, all at Amazon UK would be good deals. I don't believe any have been released in the USA as singles.

Re: amazon uk deals

£15.31 (£17.99 w/ VAT) X-Men Quadrilogy (X-Men, X-Men 2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) - According to Blu-ray.com - "The Info on the back of the cases is correct, all region free except X-Men Origins: Wolverine which is Region AB only."

It looks like the first three are two discs and Wolverine w/o the digital copy.

Re: amazon uk deals

Prices for Star Trek 1: The Motion Picture and Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier were just reduced to 8.49 GBP and 7.65 GBP respectively at amazon.co.uk. My Best Friend's Wedding is at 6.37 GBP and unavailable in a US release last time I checked.

Re: amazon uk deals

very tempted to pick up the Hellboy 1 & 2 steelbook set for under $15 plus shipping.

As far as I know the movies will play on Region A players and this definitely beats any price here.

I believe the Hellboy steelbooks are DVD; not blu-ray. --Peter
