White Collar on USA -- Series Thread
Anyone plan to check out the new USA series, White Collar? USA hasn't steered me wrong in the past when it comes to new shows, and this one gives me a sort of Catch Me If You Can vibe. The commercials have definitely peeked my interest, so I'll probably check this one out. What do you all think?

I mentioned this when Royal Pains began, and actually this now getting ridiculous when USA fills its schedule with shows starring young, white, dark-haired magazine-ready actors. There's Burn Notice, Psych, Royal Pains and now White Collar. All of these show's leading men fit the same bill demographically.

I'm a big fan of most of USA's shows, but this one just isn't catching my eye. The commercials come across as obnoxious to me, and the presence of Tiffani Amber Thiessen almost guarantees mediocrity. I'll probably give it a try.

The show actually released 4 clips, that can be seen here. Thiessen is in the last one, and is looking better then ever. I also think Matthew Bomer is excellent in the clips. He's really a talented actor and I'm looking forward to watching him star on a weekly basis.

As a Carnivale fan, Im only watching because of Tim Dekay. Otherwise I wouldnt bother with this show.
On a side note, it looks like Monk will air nonstop; awesome!

Show description:

Pilot synopsis:
Spoiler:
USA has a pretty good track record, so I'll give it a shot.

I'll probably give this a try. Bomer was good on Traveler and most recently on Chuck.

Definately tunning in tonight... I'm looking forward to what I think is going to be some great and funny chemistry between Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay.

I thought this was pretty fun. Not as good as Burn Notice, but in that same vein. The two leads have good chemistry.
He did talk his way into that mansion awfully fast. I wonder if that was just a "suspend your disbelief" plot point, or if there's another story concerning the woman's felon ex-husband. Guess we'll find out.

Re: White Collar -- New USA Series -- "Pilot" -- 10/23/09
I was a little cooler on it.
The actors seemed fine and likable, but the plot is a little weak. The chasing the girlfriend angle didn't hook me and the case work they did wasn't great either. On the one hand I want to cut them some slack because it's a pilot, but on the other this looks like it will be a semi-procedural and they usually have a very polished case in the pilot.
I agree the mansion bit was pushing it. If they had sold it a little better it might have worked but it came off as extremely good luck. There were some other things that annoyed me, like the fact that the FBI counterfeit department couldn't identify the band new, unreleased, top secret, foreign security fiber, but the guy who spent the last 4 1/2 years in supermax ID'd it on sight. Or that the FBI couldn't figure out that a counterfeiter might be importing hundreds of old, worthless books for the paper. The former I can grudgingly overlook, but later is unacceptable.
Still I'll give it a chance. I'm interested to see what it looks like week to week.

As long as we're nitpicking, that was no supermax prison. Supermax means no contact with other prisoners, 23 hour lockdown, solid walls and doors (not bars) etc.
Still, I enjoyed the show and will be back for more.

I liked it more than I thought I would. Bomer always kind of irritated me on Chuck. But I like the dynamic I saw on commercials and my wife was in for the premiere.
Some smart situations. Loved how Bomer used the anklet to catch the bad guys.

Dug it. Glad they're going to be more partners than "If you don't catch this one you're going back" every episode. Probably going to ditch Flash Forward and pick up this one.
