Just watched first 3 episodes of Witchblade last night... it's kinda weak and I don't know if I would want to sit through the whole series.

Just like with each of these anime fire sales: It is a great day for the anime consumer, but a horrible day for the anime industry. Our short term gain is their long term pain.

I picked up $615 dollars worth (~90 hours worth) for $185 including tax.

As anime leaves the major B&M retailers expect more and more sub-only and digital/online-only releases.

The wife picked up Lucky Star and a few other titles at half off.

I picked up Tsubasa S1 last week.

The wife found the new Berserk remastered at BB this week so she got that for me

B&M stores are going the way of the dinosaur anyways for buying media, so it's not a huge loss. It's usually much cheaper to buy Anime from RightStuff or Amazon, and if you really want to get your Anime from a B&M store there's always B&N and comic book specialty stores, among others.

Shit. Lucky you! Only if our economy is strong and my work is not in layoff mood, I would have bought that set!

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Yup, $14.99. I didn't have a chance to do the order from the kiosk but she saw it show up on Tuesday. Now I have to figure out what to do with my Box of War. I'll miss the nice box but these days I prefer to save space for other stuff on my shelf (stuff behind glass doors = out of children's reach). I appreciate the small size of the set. I like the art on the discs also compared to the pointless names on the old discs.

I have not seen Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion. Were these two worth enough to keep? or to store return? at those costs...

Two of the titans in all of anime history. Some will rag on Eva, especially the last two episodes. However, I'm not one of them. My vote is a resounding yes to keeping both sets. BTW, that's a great haul. You're in for many hours of anime joy.

Thanks for the Heads Up and info. Actually at other forums I posted my inquiry, someone ragged already about Eva's last 2 episodes... Hmm it raised curiosity and intrigue on my end.

Nice response!!

Keep in mind that there is a rehashed ending in the form of two films (I believe) called Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion. There's an OOP set that's floating around with both of these titles that I want.

Just finished the series last week and loved it. Great character story. But the end definitely drops into the twilight zone of obscureness ..but maybe you'll like it.

Cowboy Bebop however is excellent all around. I wouldn't be surprised if it contained the best score ever put into an animated series.

I liked the series, but it ended too quickly - wished that they keep going couple more episodes.

I think I have both Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion. Since I don't like the series very much and I might as well get rid of them.

Last Exile (Funimation release)

Two things. I purchased the complete MushiShi box set for $25. Amazing series. Were these harder to find or am I just in the minority as far as fanship?

Also, slightly off topic. I noticed Funimation is releasing The Last Exile. From what I've gathered it's going to be a 4 disc set with 625 minutes of content, compare to the Murata Range which was 7 discs and 650 minutes of content. Anyone know anything about the new set? Is it worth acquiring the new set (more shelf space + cheaper price) or is it an inferior set?

don't forget that a lot of these older series that were on 7 or 8 discs were all single layer DVD's with maybe some extras. These new sets on 4 discs are dual layer discs with usually minimal extras.

What I don't understand... I have seen several DVD that can hold more than 4 hours worth of episodes (such as 24, Star Trek: TNG, Rome, and few) on single layer while animes only add 1 1/2 hour worth of episodes per disc.

It's because of the quality of the file they burn isn't it? The higher the resolution and the higher quality the sound the more file size it will take up on a dvd.

The Star Trek DVD's are pretty compressed, and the film they used to film on wasn't great either, which makes the picture very grainy for all the series except for Enterprise.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Thanks for the info! I dont know i fwhat you shared was a blessing or a challenge..

I thought I'll be enjoying the adventure of watching Evangelion series until..

These two you mentioned..

Death and Rebirth: Which I think I will be able to get one at $25 (new sealed)

The End of Evangelion: Now this is the one in question (In my budget and ability to get one).. at Amazon alone, the new sealed one is fetching at $100??? a 2002 RARE? OOP DVD by Manga?

Whats with this release? was there a gold in it? or is this an essential thing to end & have a relaxing sleep watching Evangelion series?

You can skip Death and Rebirth. It's basically a recap of the first 24 episodes. It contains very little new animation. EOE is what you'll want to track down. You should check FYE. They usually have a pretty good selection of used anime titles.

Dude, were these two movies some sort of an answer or deeply related to your post above?

Actually, my main challenge to myself is to get the brand new sealed one. I was able to track a Death and Rebirth for $19.99 ( now I know, thanks to you that death & rebirth was just recap-no wonder why it wasnt that high in cost) but for "END".. Im itching to get one... before I start viewing Evangelion

Thanks for the inputs.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

What's the word on this remastered KITE that's supposed to be out? Based on the description over on DD, it doesn't look like there's anything new in the way of special features. I already own the uncut edition, but is it worth double-dipping?

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

I should also note that Death and Rebirth also contains the first third of End of Evangelion. If you cannot track down a copy of EOE, at least you'll get a taste of it with D&R.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

I've never even see the last 2 eps on the Evangelion DVD's. I opted to just go the End of Evangelion route. Evangelion was OK, but is a bit overhyped IMO. I would definately keep it though. Don't even think about returning Cowboy Bebop.
