Release: Funimation / Geneon Entertainment

Last Exile, The Complete Collection DVD Boxed Set (Re-Release) (Pre Order - Release Date May 5, 2009)

Contains all 7 volumes in individual thin-pak cases.

And for a pre-order-price @ 37 bucks @ rightstuf its fucking cheap. It looks like that FUNi didnt change anything, cause they are using their own "way" of releasing animes on much less discs (2-3) like the re-releases of animes like School Rumble or FMA

I think its good for people who couldnt catch the thinpak dvd box or dont want the big normal dvd cases
You got some bad info. Geneon no longer has the rights to Last Exile. FUNimation acquired this series from GDH back in late December.

It's almost a guarantee that the disc count will be reduced. The disc count should 4. The packaging should be thinpaks (likely utilizing double sided thinpaks) housed inside a flimsy paper artbox.

ARRRRRRRRRRR...thats bad

So the way is to get the old DVD Box (Bargain Bin @ TRSi) for 46$ (without shipping) OR the overprized Thinpak Box from Amazon Marketplace

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

I don't get the big stink about Viridian Collection releases (and to a lesser extent Anime Legends) in the Anime Bargains thread. While I'm not a fan of the packaging of VC, I love anime, and if I can get a way better deal on it than a regular release without losing any content on the discs, I'm all over that. I'm not a rich man by any means. I prefer the nice artboxes and sturdier packaging (VC is by no means my first choice), but if I can get the better deal on the VC without having any extras removed, I'll go with the more affordable option. I really don't see the gripe with Anime Legends at all. As far as I've seen, it's just the exact same discs only packaged in a good, sturdy, space-saving single case. I love that.

I'm with you on this. I know I'm not a fan on this line, but I understand why it's there.

If I want a series, I will likely get the initial release/collection anyways. So this bear very little for me. I own zero VC series. I have bigger concerns on their PQ on some of their recent releases that's outside of packaging.

Some people don't like those bricks (which causes floaters), but that packaging is not utilized much anymore with their recent collection releases. They are going with even thinner packaging. Keepcases that can hold up to 6 discs or slimmer alphacases that holds various amount of discs.

There are two of those this year: Berserk and Kite. We don't get much info of what's remastered. The info on Berserk was revealed because a key personal working on the project shared some key intel. They really don't do much of this probably due to budget restraints. They are not a large company and that is another reason why they branch out to other genre of media releases outside of Anime...AnimeWorks (Kitty Media, Tokyo Shock, Shriek Show).

No. It's scheduled to be released for March 24th. It remains to be seen if it will be released on time. They have been tardy on a lot of their releases (anime or otherwise) this year.

And it's solicited under AnimeWorks, so the remastered release should be the edited version. There will also be a double pack release for this as well: Kite (Remastered) + Kite: Liberator. It will be released at the same time as well.

FYI, there hasn't any information on what constitutes of this remaster.

I hope it was indeed "remastered" and not ala veridian/anime legends/ and even the old Pioneer-Geneon Signature Series

I hated Anime Works (Media Blasters)... They already contracted Scanovo for the "overlap" case (Berserk Remastered) atleast they should gone beyond getting it as a "steelbook".

It will never happen...in terms of SteelBooks under the AnimeWorks label. It's already surprising that there are even two SteelBooks under Tokyo Shock. And of course they did a terrible job advertising on those two as well...

More Funimation Blu-Ray is on the way. In the booklet included in Shiguirui are promos for Full Metal Panic: TSR , Trinity Blood, Basilisk, and Origin (got this off another popular Anime forum, of course, no release date).

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

First time posting in this thread. I used to watch a lot of anime, but have been out of the game so to speak for a few years now. The recent purchases of Witchblade Complete Series, Black Lagoon First Barrage and Elfen Lied have gotten me back into it.

Was wanting some insight on what I should get next since I have no idea what's been coming out the last few years. Although I keep hearing great things about Gurren Lagann and Pumpkin Scissors.

Here's some of my faves that may help you make me some recommendations,
Hellsing
Sorcerer Hunters
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Gunbusters
Bastard
Berserk
Record of Lodoss War
DragonBall Z

Movies:
Miyazaki of course
Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Akira
Ninja Scroll

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

lee hero, based on your favorite, I would recommend you Death Note, Gunslinger Girls, Black Lagoon Second Barrage, Chrono Crusade, Rurouni Kenshin (to warn you it contains 22 discs), Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (movie), and Samurai Champloo.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

I have a question about the FUNi Release of Rozen Maiden.

Does anybody know the changes in relation to the GENEON release?

I couldnt find any review to the "new" Rozen Maiden DVD Box set.

Oh I have. Elfen Lied was amazing.

I bought Gantz a while back actually, but have yet to watch it.

I've seen both and I was far more fulfilled with Elfen Lied than I was with Gantz. Gantz has a (excuse the wording) fucking phenomenal build up and uniqueness that makes it totally worth at least one viewing, just to experience what it offers. The material is truly thought provoking. And if you can handle the gratuitous nature of Elfen Lied than Gantz shouldn't be a problem in that area, even being slightly more explicit.

But ultimately I found it became more meandering (borderline ridiculous) and in relation to getting across its points, prolonged than necessary ...and at the end, unsatisfactory due to what I was expecting after such personal investment.

My advice would be to hit it up with no expectations at all (really, that would apply with any media) and be somewhat wary of it. Maybe it will work for you.

Otherwise (and I'm no Anime expert) based on your tastes I would second the motion on Samurai Champloo and also recommend the Samurai 7 collection (based on your tastes in martial art anime and mecha) - well, not to mention that Samurai 7 is based on one of the greatest films ever made......

Patlabor would be another, but I assume you're already aware of these films.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Had to remove Pumpkin Scissors from Netflix queue after watching first two epsiodes on disc 2. Those characters aren't that great and I can careless about them and the mystery of tank killer troops.

I'm on final disc of Wolf's Rain and 5th disc of Le Chevalier D'Eon. They both are pretty good series. After Wolf's Rain, I can start watch .hack//Legends of the Twilight and hopefully it's as good as the first one.

Elfen Lied and Gantz are the stupidest things I have ever watched...
I don't know what people are thinking that praise them.

That's your opinion. However, Elfen Lied has 100x better story with 100x better characters than Gantz does.

It's not. It's a joke compared to .hack//Sign to be honest.
Hopefully .hack//Roots is a return to the form of the first series, but I haven't had the chance to watch it yet.

As to Gantz and Elfen Lied, I have never seen Gantz, and while I won't go as far as saying it is stupid, I do agree with junglalien in wondering why people praise Elfen Lied. I couldn't even finish it.

I agree. I couldn't stand any of the characters in Gantz. Kurono's constant bitching about everything really started to get on my nerves.

IMO, I think the art is great, the story is intriguing, but it has some bad pacing in later on. I think they revealed the mystery too early and they were trying to fill in story towards end.
