I enjoyed Black Cat a lot and particularly liked Sven, but damn if I didn't get tired of him constantly yelling out Trane's name and Eve's name all the freakin' time.

I agree with you. Black Cat was really good with Sven being in my opinion the best character in the show. And its "Train"

Now watching 2nd volume of Peacemaker. I can see where the story lead and wanted to see how it ends.

Also, I just received Animatrix (Blu-ray) yesterday and planned to watch it this weekend.

I didn't buy it, I rent it through Netflix.

I kinda promised myself not to buy DVD/Blu-Ray... I think I have too many DVDs at home and need to cut down.

I'm thinking of jumping into Trinity Blood and Le Chevalier d'Eon.

Are they worth it, or not?

Trinity Blood... It is worth the watch but if your not interested in collecting just Anime for the sake of Anime then your probably better off borrowing a friends copy or renting if possible. I wouldn't pay high value for it. It started of good but doesn't finish well at all.

Le Chevalier d'Eon.... I enjoyed the series. Has a solid beginning and end. Kind of a murder mystery theme to it. It had a decent balance of fighting and story to it.

If you told me to pick just one it would be Le Chevalier d'Eon.

I enjoyed TB, but I would also go with Chevalier out of the two.

slop-you can check out the first two episodes of Chevalier to see if it strikes your fancy-

I only started Mushi-Shi and Hell Girl. I am also currently watching Solty Rei.

Only watched the first volume to Hell Girl. I like the whole short story theme to it. I will likely finish off all three at the beginning of next week so I will let you know fully after its over.

Finished Beck. I didn't think it would live up to its rep but it was easy to watch and didn't require any thought to it.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Beck is another show I'd like to watch. I was always worried that the musical aspect wouldn't work for me. I also started Soltey Rei, but haven't finished it yet.

I really dug the whole thing about Sven living by the code of Chivalry, and I thought he was very well-voiced and had a cool character design. As for the spelling, I knew the name was spelled one of those two ways but didn't feel like looking it up as I was tired and on my way to bed at the time.

Ooh, Solty Rei was another one I watched this past year that I really enjoyed. After renting it through Netflix, I ended up buying the series. I really liked the chraacter of Roy a lot and loved the voice for him. Be sure to watch the last episode all the way to the end because there's a little something after the closing credits that wraps the series up well. Also, the special feature on the first disc with the voice director's (who also voiced Roy) comments about casting is worth a listen.

Okay, saw Animatrix…. It’s just okay. 2 or 3 of segments are good and rests of them are completely bored. Good thing I only rented it.

Those are my exact same thoughts. I also didn't like the art style for some of the shorts.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Just Finished:

Beck - A simple and easy going story. The lack of a deep story actually made this Anime extremely enjoyable to watch. I avoided this series for a while because it was music based but it turns out the music part of the Anime did not take away from the series at all. What a pleasant surprise... I oddly find myself wanting to watch it again.

Phantom Memory Kurau - I really like this series...at least for the first volume or 2. It really started to tail off after that. I find myself wanting to see more adventures of Kurau being an agent for hire than discovering the history of what she really was. Furthermore, it was annoying that it took 5 volumes to finally explain why the police were tracking and chasing her down...only to provide the most obvious and simple reason why. Overall, it was not a bad series but I was left disappointed...a little bit.

Devil May Cry - Too short if you ask me. I wanted to see more of this. The ending was bit so what but I enjoyed the action to this series. More could of been explored in this Anime and I am asking myself why it was so short?...Who can say for sure. I seemed to compare Anime like this to Gungrave and while Devil May Cry provided entertainment it certainly wasn't anything close to the level of Gungrave...but certainly worth the watch.

Solty Rei - I actually watched Solty Rei right before I dove into Phantom Memory Kurau...and because of that I couldn't help but to compare the two and Solty Rei seem to come on top in just about every aspect. The voice actors and the emotional aspects of Solty Rei came across far more real than that of Kurau. Solty Rei just felt more real...far easier to picture yourself apart of it.

Dead Leaves - Not exactly my type of Anime. I did managed to watch the whole movie and it did have its funny moments. Its certainly is no masterpiece and probably does not have much in the way of replay value. I fear I lost a brain cell or two from watching this movie...and yet it was so different I just had to watch the whole thing.

5 Centimeters per second - A masterpiece...? Hardly, and let say I wasn't that much more impressed with voices of a distant star either. For an emotional masterpiece just watch Rumbling Hearts. There is no comparison in my opinion. I am not saying this authors works sucks...but I honestly seen better. The only thing even remotely intriguing was learning the meaning of the title and if that was the author goal...mission accomplished...beyond that I find the whole movie quite forgettable.

Top Ten Overall:

1.) Rumbling Hearts
2.) Death Note
3.) Rurouni Kenshin
4.) Gungrave
5.) Samurai Champloo
6.) Suzuka
7.) Bleach
8.) Beck
9.) Ghost in the Shell
10.) Azumanga Daioh

Drops from the Top 10

10.) Utawarerumono

Honorable Mention:

Last Exile, Fate/Stay Night, Gun Sword, Genshiken, Le Chevalier D'Eon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Getbackers, My Hime, Kaliedo Star, DNAngel, Baki the Grappler S2, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Mushi-Shi, Samurai 7, Hellsing, Black Blood Brothers, Trinity Blood, Basilisk, Witch Hunter Robin, Hell Girl, Gantz, Afro Samurai, Peacemaker, Witchblade, Utawarerumono, Phantom Memory Kurau, Devil May Cry, Solty Rei.

The What the Heck Was I Thinking List:

Neo Ranga, Gravitation, ES Otherwise, Samurai Gun, Ninja Scroll

In Progess/Currently Watching List:

Gilgamesh (started)
Hell Girl (started/currently watching)
Mushi-Shi (started)
Strawberry Marshmellow (started/currently watching)
Wolf's Rain (On Deck)

The To Watch List:

Mordaane, why didn't you add "Full Metal Panic FUMOFFU" to your The To Watch List?

I don't add things on my to watch list unless I physically own it or at least temporarily borrowing it from sister. When I get my hands on it I will add it. Considering the type genre I am very skeptical of how much I will enjoy it. The previews seem decent enough but its not on the high part of my to watch list at the moment.

mordaane,
I agree with you for the most part about 5 Centimeters per second. It wasn't bad at all, but it is seriously over-hyped.

I didn't care too much for Gunslinger Girls, but i'm in for Witchblade. I had been contemplating picking up the DVD Set anyway so i'll just hold out for this.

I have it on my Netflix list - does it mean it's not complete series?
