Yeah, I'd like to hear how the dts track pans out as well, evne though I head the DD is fantastic (haven't seen it on a HT yet). I still think the crisp, blue R2 cover is nice. However, I really dislike the fact that all the creatures from the film are on both the R2 and R1 covers. Kinda spoilery.

Out of all of them, I actually prefer the R3 cover.

I hope that any Silent Hill sequel reveals Pyramid Head to be the ultimate manifestation of the Dark One, who temporarily granted power to the girl.

So, if Pyramid Head works for the Reaper, why did he try to kill Rose? Or was he only after Cybil (who was only in Silent Hill because she was chasing after Rose and not actually "invited")? I get that the Reaper was apparently testing Rose's resolve but Pyramid Head was a bit of overkill. Other than him, only the nurses posed much of a threat to Rose (yeah there where those whining babies or whatever and those bugs but they didn't seem remotely as dangerious as the nurses or Pyramid Head).

Just wanted my rental from Netflix. I thought exactly the same thing.

I was pretty disappointed since I played Silent Hill (Part 2 I think?) on the Xbox several years back and it scared the piss out of me.

I was extremely disappointed in the monsters used in the movie. They had the damn video games to reference...why not use tons of those? The few they did use looked decent but for whatever reason they just weren't creepy. I kept expecting a bad ass one to show up but finished the movie disheartened.

Well, it could be that Pyramid Head is only "on loan" from the Dark (which I still think is a separate entity from The Reaper), in which case he would have some level of autonomy. Or it could be that he'll try to kill whatever is in front of him unless something more powerful (i.e. The Reaper or Dahlia) are there to direct him. Since he was taken out of context from the games, it's a little difficult to tell exactly how he's meant to fit in. But it's definitely fun to ponder.

So the Dark is not created by (nor is a minfestation of) the Reaper?

Spoiler:
No, I think the Dark represents the evil that lives in everything, the primordial evil that was the natural opposition to there being good in the world. The Reaper is simply an entity who inhabits it. I'd say The Dark is more a place of evil with malicious intent, and The Reaper is an entity who can use the evil in that place to her own evil ends. But the Reaper clearly got what it wanted in Silent Hill, so there's not much more to tell about it. Whereas the Dark will always be around.

Of course, these are just my personal theories that make me enjoy the film and the games more. You're free to take what you like and reject what you don't.

Thanks for summing it up for me Suprmallet.

On the money or not?

Watched this last night, thought it was awful. I did not understand the ending (or much else about the movie) and I don't feel like skimming through this whole thread, can someone explain to me what happened?

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

I thought the end was simply - they're still stuck inbetween but were able to leave Silent Hill itself.

The movie is a mess, but the atmosphere is fantastic. Now apply that atmosphere to something worthy and we may be on to something.

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

Finally some news on the Sequel -

Michael J. Bassett has apparently been tapped to write/direct Silent Hill: Revelation which will be based on Silent Hill 3

I really liked Silent Hill 3. I hope the film can capture the feel, and I'd love it if they incorporated much of the score. I remember the CD included with the game was great.

Thank goodness. I love the first one, and was starting to think we would never get a sequel.

I also hope they use the music from Silent Hill 3. It's fantastic.

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

Silent Hill nailed the atmosphere of the game, but PH should not have been in the movie. Using him was just fan service. The ending fits fine with the games because most of them end with a 'what the hell' ending anyway.

Really looking forward to another one because the third game is awesome. Really surprised they skipped over the second game though given it's popularity.

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

I always thought having Sean Bean go back in search of his wife and kid could have let us get Silent Hill 2 almost exactly as it was depicted in the video game.

And as I read through the thread again I realized I've mentioned that about half a dozen times. Whoops!

Yeah...I hated that Bean's character wasn't the lead. I love Sean Bean in movies. SH was a huge tease...atmosphere was perfect..just that story was weak.

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

I loved Solomon Kane so I'm happy with the news that Michael J. Bassett wil write and direct Silent Hill 2.

As for Sean Bean in Silent Hill, we were lucky he was in the film at all. Remember, the movie was envisioned with an entirely female cast. It was the studio that insisted there had to be men in the movie and thus Sean Bean and Kim Koates' scenes were added to placate the studio.

I had hoped that as well and had agreed with you for those half dozen times as well.

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

Honestly, going through the thread makes me want to watch the movie again. While some people clearly didn't like it, there was some great conversation that came out of it.

Compare that to the conversation in the Monsters thread, which is a more critically lauded movie but there's nothing much to actually discuss.

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

Sean Bean should not have been in it, they should have saved him and PH for SH2. He is the perfect James! Then again, Suprmallet's idea of having Chris go back to SH looking for his family is an amazing idea. It could tie in PH being his tormentor all along and explain his presence in the first movie, and the character of Chris having a somewhat mysterious background himself.

Of course, I'm just happy we're getting another movie regardless and as I said earlier, the series has nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to Silent Hill 3.

Re: Gans to direct Silent Hill

The original's production design was disturbing, while not terribly gory. In it's undercurrent, Gans' direction brought a level of class, which we don't normally see in genre pictures. There was a gentle story about mothers and daughters, juxtaposed against the demonic tones. They were lucky to have a dramatic, engaging, tragic story to tell (as opposed to something like Saw). It all worked very well.

I'm very anxious to see what comes of this.
