I do agree that he is indeed delighted with this cut. However, it's not as if studios haven't on their own released extended cuts without director approval. Sometimes they'll even claim they are director's cuts, much to the actual director's chagrin. Or he might pull a Peter Jackson or Luc Besson and say the extended cut is a gift to the fans though the theatrical cut is his preferred version.

I simply find it suspect that we got a few throwaway deleted scenes but none of the alternate endings and certainly nothing approaching the hour's worth of footage Del Toro said he (and González Iñárritu) cut out of the movie.

Supposedly that's exactly what it did. And apparently it better established the world. I greatly enjoy the finished cut but would love to see the version Del Toro originally promised.

Then I would totally love to see that. Del Toro's worlds are places I never get enough of. To me, more is better. I hope a longer cut does see the light of day.

I feel the same way. Which is why I'm longing for an extended cut. Even if the theatrical cut turns out to be the better cut (due to improved pacing), I'd like to experience the longer more relaxed cut of the movie.

Re: Pacific Rim

I just picked this up for $7.99 (Blu/ DVD/ UV edition) on amazon. I'm not sure how long that price is for; it wasn't even listed on their Deals page.

Re: Pacific Rim

Is there any way at this point for someone in the U.S. to get that Target Canadian exclusive? I found out about this way too late and I wouldn't have even know how to get it in the first place actually.

I knew it wasn't what I thought it could ever be... But just one small bit of me was hoping the bump was talk of an extended cut. Lol.

I don't care what you say, Guillermo! I want to see an EC.

Re: Pacific Rim

Yeah, I fucking love this movie. We watched it again the other day and it's still entertaining as all hell.
