Re: Pacific Rim

1st day purchase for 3D/BD/DVD/UV. Hopefully there's a nice store exclusive somewhere.

Re: Pacific Rim

We are going to see this tonight in theaters. I feel like this is the type of movie that needs to be seen and heard in a theater.

It was certainly the loudest movie I can recall ever seeing in a theater. Went to the IMAX 3D showing yesterday with my 3 year old and he bitched about the first preview being loud. Once the movie started he didn't complain at all.

Re: Pacific Rim

For some reason I find it funny that you'd say your 3 year old was bitching about the sound level. What was the first preview?

Re: Pacific Rim

Will the 3-D version have any additional extras? Because if it won't, and I'm hoping it won't, I have zero interest in it. I'll be first in line for this baby.

Sadly, the rumored extended cut isn't here. Maybe they're saving up for the inevitable double-dip. This is one case where I would.

Re: Pacific Rim

I hope that Del Toro and maybe some of the cast recorded a commentary for this. I know nowadays commentary tracks on WB Blu-Rays are more miss than hit.

I don't anticipate many extras.

Warners could produce a killer Maximum Movie Mode feature - but alas, I ain't holding my breath.

There was no rumoured extended cut. Although he cut an hour out of the movie to make the 131 minutes theatrical cut, Guillermo Del Toro was very clear that they will not release an extended cut.

He also said the disc will be very lite on extras.

Commentary for sure, but that will be it in terms of quality extras. The rest will probably be fluff extras/featurettes.

We'll see. I've pre-ordeed my copy.

There are plenty of rumors about it in the talkback thread, though of course nothing GDT himself said. But I doubt all of the deleted footage he's talked about will be on the disc. Though we can hope.

He also said the disc will be very lite on extras.
I'm sort of hoping that this movie, which had cult classic written all over it before it even came out, will do well enough on video for it to get another release with more extras (and maybe GDT will change his mind about the extended cut like he did with Hellboy). I hate double-dipping, but this is once case where I would.

I'm sure it's nothing new to have preorders up before there's an actual information about what'll be on the disc, but it's kind of annoying all the same. You're probably right that it'll mostly be fluff and EPK stuff.

Day one, 2D. I'm not supporting 3D conversions.

Re: Pacific Rim

^You might not be supporting them, but this one was fantastic (as most of the effect scenes were just rendered out in 3D, no conversion needed).

Re: Pacific Rim

I may not like the idea of conversions for the most part but this film actually was worked on by GDT. He tinkered with it and it worked. He was against it and then they forced it on him. But they gave him the time to work it. So that was great.

Re: Pacific Rim

I'm hoping to see some store include exclusive bonus disc like the one Target put on for the Avengers blu-ray. The 90 min. features on the making of the Marvel films was entertaining.

Re: Pacific Rim

Kind of unusual that both versions are virtually identical save for the top blue banner. Fine by me...

Re: Pacific Rim

Have they ever had that? Same artwork but different banners? For multiple versions on the same format released at the same time?

I'm pretty sure that's just the standby art used just for now until they've locked it down and then one could be the official.

October 15!. Definitely getting the Limited Edition, plus perhaps one or more store exclusives depending on what they are.

Re: Pacific Rim

Cool new covers. What's on the fourth disc of the limited edition version? I'll probably just get the standard 2-D version BR and enjoy it. October 15th is too long to wait!

The conversion wasn't forced on him. ILM went ahead and rendered the first sequence of CGI effects they worked on in 3D to convince Del Toro that a conversion could work. When he saw what they achieved, Del Toro agreed to convert the movie to 3D.

Looks like the fourth disk is just the movie on DVD:

Definitely looks like a standard collection of 3D Movie BD, 2D Movie BD, Special Features BD, and Movie DVD.
