With Best Buy it also appears to be a different cover. Possibly a steelbook? If it ends up being a bonus disc I hope it also comes with the 3D version.

No bonus disc. BB has one extra feature viewable through CinemaNow. Doesn't seem like a big deal.

Re: Pacific Rim

Based on the product description, the FS SteelBook does NOT include the 3D-BD. Just 2D, DVD, and UV. That seems really odd...

Sadly, that's par for the course with exclusive Steelbooks. Most don't include 3D when available.

I'm surprised there are only 4 minutes worth of deleted scenes. And it seems none of them are the alternate endings, either. Perhaps we will get an extended cut, after all?

Re: Pacific Rim

Pretty sure this and Iron Man 3 will be deals on Black Friday so I'm holding out 'til then. Only blu I'm buying on release date for the rest of the year is Man of Steel. :-)

Good to know it's a quality disc though.

Amazon has dropped the non-junk 3D release to $27.99.

Thanks! I'll try to get Best Buy to PM and use some RZ credit.

Re: Pacific Rim

Turns out Wal-Mart has an exclusive feature on the discs called "History of the Jaegers". No one one knows why it wasn't ever advertised/promoted.

Any additional info as to what exactly or how long this is?

Re: Pacific Rim

I hate when companies (Warner Brothers) pulls crap like this. I understand store exclusives but for the BBY exclusive to NOT have a lenticular cover and be more expensive then have the exact same 2D BBY version with a lenticular cover but without the exclusive and be cheaper is just overkill. They are really abusing their fans with releases like this. At least make the exclusive available on the 3D version as well. I'm sick of buying multiple versions. I'll wait 'till the 3D drops to $20 and it will.

I know its 30 minutes but people have said quite a bit of the footage is already interspersed throughout all the other BTS stuff on the discs.

Also Target Canada has an exclusive BTS segment of their own but again, only in Canada it seems.

Yeah, all this exclusive extras stuff is really starting to get on my nerves.

Re: Pacific Rim

I just called Disney yesterday about a disc replacement and at the end of the call they made a big deal out of pointing out that Monsters University is coming out soon and asked me if I'd be interested in hearing their special deals to pre-order it directly with them.

I doubt that they record the responses or care, but I thought it was funny to be able to say, "I definitely plan on buying it, but am waiting to find out more about store exclusives before I decide where I'm going to buy it."

Seems like it's taking more money out of Disney's pocket to not buy it directly from them, unless the stores are paying them a buttload of money to get an exclusive.

Is there anybody other than Disney and Warner Bros. who also sell their titles directly for a larger profit?

Re: Pacific Rim

Obviously Paramount do judging by the recent Into Darkness fiasco. Got mine from Amazon, looks like it's cropped a bit from 1.85 to 1.78, the transfer looks stunning so far even on my Westinghouse. I'm watching it with GDT's commentary, looks like there're a lot of extras, I have so few BR that I'm still getting used to the menus. Love GDT's commentaries, he's flying solo on this one so he doesn't have anyone to bounce off of, but I'm 10 minutes and he's already chocked full of info.

Very rarely (if at all) are 1.85:1 movies cropped to a 1.78:1 aspect ratio. What usually happens is that the thin matte bars are removed. So you're actually getting more image with the 1.78:1 transfer since it's slightly open matte.

I think all his films have a solo commentary on them at least.
