Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Even worse is that since the second analog isn't built into the system, even the games that require it often don't use it the way you'd expect a second analog to work. It's a huge blunder on Nintendo's part and I can't believe they didn't fix it here.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I just want an electronic device that isn't improved upon for 10-15 years so I don't feel like my relatively-small investment is obsolete. Is that too much to ask?

I will too .... eventually. But that nub is so inadequate that you just sit there and think it must have been designed that way intentionally just to give the designers something to improve on with the next iteration -- like how the display on the first GBA wouldn't really be visible to play unless you sat at under a lamp or clipped a little light to it.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I read a comment on another site that this upgrade is essentially for Monster Hunter fans, because that game is so huge in Japan but requires the attachment for the second stick. It's also only been announced for Japan so far. Maybe this is a dry run for a new handheld, a stopgap to help boost sales in Japan before unleashing a fully new handheld next year.

Exactly. Should be:

Gameboy
Gameboy Advance
DS
3DS

Did Gameboy Color play regular Gameboy games?

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

The regular Gameboy did not play many of the Gameboy color games though, since the Color had a faster chip and much more RAM

The DSi was my biggest regret along with the Micro. Neither of those systems saw more than a few hours of game time. My favorites have been the SP and DSLite, altough the current XL is very nice.

This "new" system feels a lot like the DSI, just a stop gap hardware revision before the major system release.

What it really feels like is a A KNIFE IN THE FUCKING HEART!

I spent over TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS (you read that right, we're talking entire hundreds) on my XL mere weeks* ago. And now this?

(Okay, actually GBA had a shorter window. That actually surprises me).
As someone said earlier, the DSi was the same thing, it had some nominal improvements, I skipped it entirely, and just avoided the miniscule amount of games that were exclusive to it (which admittedly, with Xeno for this new one, is harder to do). But what are game developers going to do? Program for the old system which has already sold millions, or program specifically to take advantage of the upgraded stats and buttons of this new, halfway system, and risk this becoming the next DSi? This new system still plays the old games, right? So what incentive is there for anyone but Nintendo (and whoever puts out Amiibos, though isn't there going to be an attachment for the older models) to really soup up their games?

Of course, I have a 3DS, the stick attachment for it, the 3DS XL, and the stick attachment for that, and there are so few games that use that attachment that I'm certainly going to take a wait and see on this one. Of course, that's what I should have done with even next gen iterations like the PS4 and One, and I fell to temptation there, so as the hype builds up I may fall prey again.

The way the Pokemon pre-Amiibo figures Rumble U figures worked is that you tag them, it loads the stats, and then when you're done you tag them again to update... otherwise if the thing had to sit on the WiiU controller it'd be terrible to play.

As far as the Vita goes, stupid Sony and their exclusive memory media. I realize it was nominally to prevent the piracy that was rampant on the PSP, but it really defeats the purpose of having a system designed to play digital games (and really, that Vita game slot, at least on the old one, is terrible) only able to load a handful of games before even the largest memory card they sell is full.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I mentioned it earlier, but while the DSi is the best comparison the upgrades here seem far more significant. Now whether there are more exclusives remain to be seen.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is having some eshop sales leading up to Smash Bros.

3D Land for $19.99 is pretty good, wish I didn't already buy it a couple months ago.

Wait, the virtual console game on the WiiU has to be bought separately from the same game on the 3DS?

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Yeah, Nintendo has no cross-buy option like Sony does. But even then not every game that's available on more than one Sony device is cross-buy.

Having Mario 2 and 3 at my fingertips on the 3DS is tempting, but spending money on those titles yet again is a turn off.

Edit: I'll wait for week 2. That roster of characters is sure to bring some good deals.

If this 'new' system was so different then why stick with the 3DS name?

Because Nintendo sucks at naming things?

Like someone said earlier, personally it seems to me that if Nintendo wanted to push new control schemes (with 2 new buttons and another analog stick, which is far more significant then the cameras for the DSi in my opinion) plus needed more power for certain games/ports to be playable, I think they should have just waited a bit longer and pitched it as a new handheld and not an extension of the 3DS family.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I bit on Mario Land 3D. $20 - $10 I had sitting there from the digital deluxe program makes it a pretty sweet deal.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

This sale(and Smash Bros.) just highlights what a vast catalog Nintendo is sitting on yet we only get games featuring Mario, Zelda and Kirby anymore. . So annoying and frustrating as a fan.
