Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Man, Mallrats has such good lines... Makes me wanna watch it again.
Just recently finally bought my first 3DS game after having the system for a while, Street Fighter IV.
First it was kinda difficult to get used to the 3D while playing the game, as button mashing can of course jerk the system and screen around a bit that the 3D also loses clarity. You have to be careful playing those games... Got used to it eventually, and just as others have said, look through, not at.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I picked up a 3DS the other day, since I have to return my loaner review copy this week. I can't wait to find out what games are in development for the thing. So far, I'm impressed with it.
I'd heard a lot of things about regular DS games being crappy on the 3DS but Pokemon White worked really well this morning. Though the circle pad wasn't nearly as precise as the d-pad and went the wrong direction sometimes, it was otherwise perfect.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I decided to pick one up on Friday when I was at Costco. Figure I could play with it over the weekend just to see for myself if it was worth the $250 investment right now. Well, I returned it this morning for a refund. Its not that I don't like it....I thought the 3D was great and had a blast playing Street Fighter IV. Even games like Face Raiders and the AR games were fun but I had to keep the 3D slider set to about the middle and had to completely turn it off after about 20-25min of play to avoid headaches.
The other plus to the system was the analog stick. Easily the best one I've used on a portable but not really much to compare it to other than the PSP lol. I wish all DS systems had one....would love one on my DSi XL. For me though, the negatives outweighed the positives. Battery life was abysmal. Reminds me of my Turbo Express playing days. The stylus placement is terrible and I really don't care for it being retractable. I didn't care for the glossy finish, its a fingerprint magnet. Why did they do this after going to a matte finish with the DSi and DSi XL? The screen size is too small, especially the bottom screen. Maybe I'm so used to playing on the DSi XL. Finally, my biggest negative of the system....original DS games look horrible. Not only is the top screen cropped but the colors looked washed out and not as vibrant.
I could keep my DSi XL and use it for original DS games but I'd really love to use that analog stick....so I'll be patient and hopefully Nintendo will release a 3DS XL at some point.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Anyone looking for some 3D pics to view on their 3DS, check this site:
http://www.insidethemagic.net/3d/
Some of the pics are good, some are meh, a few have a really nice 3D effect. They even include a text file with instructions on how to properly copy them to the right folder so that the 3DS will pick them up in the camera app.

There are a lot of great games coming out, included Animal Crossing, Zelda games (OOT!!), Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater, Resident Evil, and Dragon Quest. It just stinks how few details there are about any of them. The release dates seem to be months away.
My only real complaint about the 3DS at this point is that I find it ugly, and the build quality is not very good. I saw some kids playing with their DSi/DS Lites on an airplane the other day, and they looked much, much better. I wish Nintendo would have stuck with the simple aesthetics and matte finish on the paint. The 'layered' look of the 3DS is hideous, and I dislike that there are different shades of color for each later. It's also too shiny, and the bottom screen has that weird, elevated frame. Not to mention the shoulder buttons feel loose. Nintendo really could have done a better job in this department.

Most of the comments seem to indicate that the shoulder buttons are a big improvement... I guess there were a bunch of people breaking the shoulder buttons on the DS/DSi pretty easily. My main worry is the hinge, since that's what seems to break on most DS's, and my 3DS doesn't seem all that sturdy.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I checked it out at Best Buy today. Maybe it was the lowered expectations, but I thought it was really cool! The 3D definitely adds a lot of depth to the image which wowed me a bit. That said, I still plan on waiting for Version 2...

I totally agree with everything you said! I thought it looked really good once my eyes adjusted.

I'm so totally sold on 3d gaming now. I don't get any 'popup book' effect like with 3d movies, where there are usually identifiable planes of depth. On the 3ds, everything actually feels like your looking at a real 3d object.
I'm thinking of picking up another launch title tonight. Possisbly Ghost Recon. Anybody have any recommendations? I want something that really shows off the 3d. I'm thinking of getting Ghost Recon, Madden, Steel Diver, or that Samurai game. Recommendations? Also, any good promotions still going on?

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Ghost Recon is a solid turn-based strategy game. I'm really enjoying it, and it seems to have a fairly lengthy campaign. I would highly recommend it.
Steel Diver is fun as well but seems to have a lot less content than Ghost Recon. I couldn't really recommend it at its regular price.
As for Pilotwings, I'm finding the Free Flight mode to be a lot of fun. I've finished all of the missions (although not with three stars for each), but it's the Free Flight mode that keeps me coming back.

Funny that no one talks about Street Fighter 4 3D Edition much. It's pretty fun especially when you challenge people on-line. (somehow I always get my A$$ kicked though) What are other people's impression of this game?

Out of the games I've played so far, SSFIV3D is the best one.
(Monkeyball being the only other until later this week when the Ubi titles show up).

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
SSIV3D does seem to be the most polished launch title; it does a fantastic job of recreating the game on a portable platform while cutting very few corners (moving backgrounds, etc.). The problem that I have is that I have this game, on a big screen, with big expensive joysticks (though I still stink at it) so I've already played it for the most part, and I'm not good enough to try to challenge others. Plus, it doesn't seem like you can unlock much, which is usually what keeps me playing these games for a while.
I think the game I've played the most is Ridge Racer, mostly because it's got a bunch of content to unlock. I've been considering picking up Ghost Recon as well, but it's been sold out at the local TRU, and I'd only pick it up if I could get the gift card deal (which I'm surprised Amazon didn't match this time). I'm almost done with Pilotwings, and I'm holding off on really playing Nintendogs and Cats until I get my screen protector on, since that's the game that had me scratch up the screen on my original phat DS.

I'm waiting on a copy of Street Fighter, but the best game I've played up to this point has been Asphalt 3D.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Whoa, that's a lot sooner than I expected and coming out right around my birthday. Dang, may not be able to resist getting a 3DS after all...
EDIT: Then again, $40 is a LOT for a game I've already played. Plus I have it on disc for free back from the Wind Waker pre-order days. I realize the 3DS version is remastered, but there are a lot of HD remastered games on PS3 that don't cost this much. Or if they do you're usually getting three games for $40, not just one...

They're probably going to have green blood in this with the final boss? I think only my original copy has the original red blood. Eh well, no big...
