Very few DS games (I can't think of any, actually) required use of the d-pad and stylus at the same time. It looks like many 3DS games will require use of the analog nub and stylus at the same time.

Besides, who's going to reverse all those animated gifs?
Probably the most burning question in the whole thread.

The 3DS doesn't have a host of new features worth the $100 jump. Hell, improved graphics is relative anyway.
Here are a few of the upgraded/new features, not present in any previous Nintendo handheld, that make the price worth it:

glasses-free 3D screen/graphics
3D camera for taking 3D photos
3D video playback
built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor
analog control
multitasking
built-in apps (notepad, AR games, friends list tracker, etc.)
3DS store (Virtual Console, 3D classics, 3DSWare, 3D movies, demos)

I think we all agree that the price had to be where it is with all that... stuff... in the 3DS. I just wonder if it was worth it.

I've heard Kid I. is almost impossible to for lefties (and really hard for right handed players).

For me, mobile gaming has been taken over by my ipod touch or android phone. I really don't see myself getting a 3DS or PSP2. It is a shame because I know I will be missing out on some really good games.

Speaking of which, is there a PSP2 thread? I couldn't find one.

And if these are anything like the DSi then it will be a novelty for kids, not something worthwhile like a camera phone. Have they said what resolution? Easily exportable?

and the rest
3D - yea?
built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor - could be decent
analog control - definite
multitasking -
built-in apps (notepad, AR games, friends list tracker, etc.) - another 1 friend code is a solid step forward though.
3DS store (Virtual Console, 3D classics, 3DSWare, 3D movies, demos) GIANT How is this a feature? It's a given that we would see 3DS downloadable games on DSiWare.

Look I'm not trying to convert anyone, I'm just not seeing $100 worth of upgrades here. I'm seeing a DSi that's now in 3D with some minor software tweaks to what was already there, oh and the graphical upgrade.

The 3D tech alone seems to justify most of that price to me

Is there anyone here that has actually played with one? Who knows if it even works that well. Garnett didn't seem won over by it on Weekend Confirmed.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS (tentative name), 3D DS w/o Glasses!

As I said, I didn't but I saw plenty of non-glasses 3D small portable displays at CES. They're sort of 3D, but not like with glasses and quite blurry. Sort of like those lenticular slipcases you'll sometimes get.

Don't forget that the smaller the display, the less depth you're going to perceive. I'm sure this works, but it might end up being a cool, unique novelty that wears off quickly. Not that we've ever seen that in a Nintendo product before, but this could be the exception.

The only thing holding me back is battery life, I'll wait for actual reviews and opinions.

What's holding me back is I have no idea what the 3D will actually look like. You can watch as many YouTube videos as you want, but without actually playing it, you'll never know.

I'm sure there will be demos at Best Buys and Gamestops before it comes out.

Yeah like Supermallet said, you can easily "convince" yourself with a store demo unit. However, I believe those demo units are wired to a power source, so they will not have battery issues.

You're correct. A device plugged into a power source will not run out of power. I'm currently using my laptop while plugged in. Sadly, if I ever unplug it, it will run out of power in a matter of hours. What a rip off!

Well yea, of course. I'm just saying, I certainly won't be pre-ordering.

I think what he's saying is that if you're interested, you can preorder now (at someplace like Amazon that doesn't require some downpayment), wait for the demos, then decide whether to keep the preorder (if you think it'll be hard to get).

Yea I understand... I just don't really think it's going to be all that hard to find. Maybe if it was coming out around the holidays, maybe.

Hahaha, I won't call it rip off, just inconvenient... Just imagine you have to charge your laptop every three hours or so (you probably already done that many times, that's why you use the power outlet, smart ), it's annoying yes? Now for laptops, I understand, it got powerful processors with bigger screen and louder speakers too. How about that 3DS eh? Ah, that's right, blame on the small battery

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS (tentative name), 3D DS w/o Glasses!

Pfft, I have a Core i5 with an ATI 5650 graphics card and get 8 hours of battery life on my laptop, and the damn thing is an Acer. I expect better from you Nintendo

Seriously though one of my favorite parts about the DS is how good the battery life is, hoping the 3DS has somewhat decent battery life to it.

And I hope it sells for less than $150.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS (tentative name), 3D DS w/o Glasses!

I preordered mine today. DS is my favorite system ever so I have to get the next one and put up with my usual Nintendo issues like games that are locked to the hardware. I doubt I buy a launch game though. Nothing looks worth $40 to me.
