Anno used a 3.1 because he wanted to emulate the original Showa era films. In fact, originally he wanted a 1.0 mono track but was talked out of it.

Funimation is extending the run with a special Saturday (10/22) matinee encore on 200 screens, while the current run will be going through 10/27 in select theaters.

That's how I feel, too. Some of the best entries in the series shook up the status quo. This'll be a divisive film, for sure, but so far everything I've seen and heard sounds promising.

Rumor has it Toho will announce plans for a NA release "shortly". Just today they said the film will roll out in over 100 countries, marking one of their largest international releases ever.

Production begins on this today in Japan.

Interesting note: the working title is SHIN GOJIRA, which means NEW or TRUE GODZILLA.
