My thinking is that if this can get some decent reviews from main stream critics that could help its opening. The major complaints about the first one was the lack of kaiju action, which all reports say this one remedies quite well. If this can register above 75% on RT, I think it might get some casual interest going. Slim chance, as a lot of critics are dismissive of this kind of stuff, but I hope they can just have fun like they did with the recent John Wick , and a high audience score will help. I'm hoping this is the John Wick of kaiju films.

The trailer for this played before Avengers: Endgame and actually looked "epic." I thought all those Toho monsters fighting one another would look goofy in a modern movie, but they managed to make it seem serious. Hopefully they keep the obligatory Hollywood action-film jokes and one-liners to an absolute minimum.

So, I thought tracking seemed soft on this one but figured the masses would get on board after the marketing blitz went into full effect.

But then, I just bought tickets for opening night, 8:00 p.m., at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood... and the theater is currently only about 25% sold. Yikes.

I REALLY hope this builds on WOM and clears $200mm because if any universe is gonna keep going it had better be the MonsterVerse.

I am so glad the success or failure of this film won't have any impact on us getting a follow-up.

But even if NA is soft - meaning a sub-$200mm finish - China and OS will propel this above $600mm, I think.

Saw this in IMAX last night. Lots of fun. It's what I wanted from the 2014 Godzilla but didn't get.

And there is a post-credits scene, btw.

I've somehow completely missed the fact that Bear was doing the soundtrack. He's a big part of BSG's success as a story, I'm excited to see what he does here.

I'm going to be in Asia next week for about 10 days and will try to see this when it opens in Bangkok, Thailand. 4DX is pretty big in Asia, so I'll see if they offer that for this.

I have a feeling the producers of this movie knew this had a niche audience and made the wise choice of putting all of the major Toho name monsters into the second one, so they can all have their moment in case after GvKK it's all over.

I would imagine that would be it regardless. That is unless they are going to have Godzilla: Jurassic Park Gone Wild or Godzilla vs God. It seems that they are unloading most of their big baddies in this one.

Depends on the creativity used in those parts. That stuff can get repetitive and quite boring pretty quick.
