I think Dwayne Johnson is completely booked with jobs for the next year or two and that includes his TV show on HBO.

Good luck trying to get this made on his schedule.

I'm pretty sure The Rock doesn't need to waste time on a GI JOE flick now more than ever.

Val last week at the Heat anniversary

Spoiler:

As far as Dawyne, cut him. Get another leading man or woman, or bring Tatum back.

No need to wait for The Rock ... one of the great things about GI Joe: tons of characters to choose from!

Not sure what I expect from a GI Joe movie, but I don't think either of the first two delivered it.

Edited to add: YES, seek out The Salton Sea.

G.I. Joe is being rebooted to appeal to younger audience

The company also has big plans to team up with Paramount again on movies featuring a rebooted G.I. Joe with a revamped look intended to appeal to younger audiences.

The action-figure line was turned into a movie in 2009, with a sequel four years later. Both "G.I. Joe" movies were modest box-office successes and didn't generate the level of global appeal as the "Transformers" movies.

Simon Waters, who oversees consumer products at Hasbro Studios, said the company wants to take “a more millennial approach.”

“The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it,” he said. “There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters.”

Ugh. They're gonna feature younger no-name actors like Power Rangers is doing for the primary cast.

Millennials and GI Joe - that in itself is a problem.

probably going to be protests that they call it GI Joe. It's not gender neutral enough.

Truthfully, the first G.I. Joe is not all that bad as far as generic action films go. The dialogue was horrific but the action scenes were pretty good and anything with Sienna Miller in leather for 90 minutes can't be all that bad.

No name actors doesn't bother me, but I don't even know what "millennial approach" is supposed to mean. If it means a bunch of early 20 something year old soldiers, that sounds terrible.

Agreed that no name actors don't bother me, as long as it is an enjoyable movie.

Think "20yr olds smarter than the generals who just want to shoot enemies instead of understanding them"

The generals will be the villains. COBRA might not even have to show up.

This. I think one of my hang ups in the first two was I couldn't see the characters past the pretty-faced actors.

I thought the first was really cheesy but so much fun. 2 kinda sucks the life out of it. Only saw it once, but they went for more gritty and realistic. I really liked the cornballness of the 1st...

Don't worry. I'm sure there won't be many girls in the movie to ensure the little boys (and grown men) in the audience aren't uncomfortable.

Doesn't need a "reboot" - just different characters. The movies did a good job with the look (especially the 2nd) - they just need a stronger story. And both movies were better than ANY Transformers flick. They should lean in harder, not make a movie that only appeals to people who have zero connection to the source material.

Re: G.I. Joe 3 (D: D.J. Caruso)

Joe has been in a death spiral for a few years now. The comics have been rebooted at least twice. Hama's continuation series is spinning wheels, and hardly any new toys have been released.

Sadly it looks like the 80's Joe V Cobra is coming to a slow end.

Paramount Sets 'G.I. Joe,' 'Dungeons & Dragons' Release Dates

Paramount is playing the release dating game Monday, with the studio carving out territory for four tentpoles.

A film simply titled G.I. Joe will hit theaters March 27, 2020. The studio previously released two films based on the Hasbro property — G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013).

Man. 11 years since rise and 7 since retaliation by then. Probably will be a total reboot.

Exact opposite for me, just because of Cobra Commander. But I appreciate the scope Rise had over Retaliation.
