G.I. Joe 3 (D: D.J. Caruso)

Andrew Stewart from Variety tweeted the following today

Yo Joe! After a $132 mil opening for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, Paramount said it will move forward with a third JOE.

So, start the discussion. Will Chu be back? It's pretty much a given they'll want the Rock.

The Rock is essential. I think they kind of set up a sequel plot of

Spoiler:
Destro getting back into the mix after being screwed over by CC. I think it would be cool to have it open with (a better) Baroness getting him out of the prison.

Destro reclaims MARS; Iron Grenadiers VS Cobra VS Joe. Make it happen!

I'm hoping for a new director, since I wasn't a fan of how Retailiation turned out and Chu didn't impress me.

This sounds perfect.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura says he wants to see more intimate, character-driven scenes. Also: more ninja mythology:

“We haven’t spent any time considering what the next movie is. There are elements we’re really excited about. I’d like to do more ninja story. That’s really fun, and I think the mythology will support some really cool things. You know, I was a really huge fan of the TV show Combat! as a kid, and there’s an intimacy the show had because their budget demanded it—it’s always a bunch of guys and they’re going down a ditch. I’d like us to do some of that kind of stuff where you’re really on an intimate level. ‘Surprising’ isn’t the right word, but ‘gratifying’ how Dwayne and Channing’s ‘home scenes’, if you would, they’re not buddy scenes but they translated that way somehow. So they’re basic character scenes, and they’re domesticated scenes. How well that played in the scale of what we’re trying to do. I’d like to see more of that.”

Destro better be in the next one!

Meh. Less Ninjas this time. More Joes. And a Cobra Commander who is actually the main villain.

Also, bring in Falcon if they don't want to resurrect Duke (if Storm Shadow could come back without explanation, Duke can too). ANd yeah, evil Baroness and Destro versus Cobra Commander, with the Joes caught in the middle, would be great.

Well I'd love the job if given. And I do have a plot in mind.

It makes sense in context of the comic. Serpentor fucked up Cobra Commander's scuba diving vacation plans.

No thanks on more ninjas. Hated when the old Marvel comic turned into nothing but ninjas.

Why were you buying a comic called "Snake-Eyes and Ninja Force" then? ;)

Because I'm a completist. Doesn't mean I liked it. :)

Those issues get a lot of shit, but that was 20 issues before cancellation. So it made since to rebrand it with the most popular character. The final issue was fantastic though, since it has Snake Eyes inner dialogue for the first time.

That's all well and good but we're two movies in and they're already going ninja crazy. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow work best in small bursts. They show up, act all badass, and leave a mess of bodies in their wake. Their mystique is gone if you keep placing them front and center.

The Baroness To Return With G. I. Joe 3?

With G. I. Joe 3 greenlit by Paramount, G. I. Joe Live Action Movie script writers; Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are busy at work writing the script for the next movie. When IGN asked what they have in mind, the writers said they might bring back The Baroness:

"We were able to chat with the G.I. Joe Retaliation screenwriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, recently and discovered that the pair are actively in the process of breaking the story for the third film. The Zombieland co-writers were looking at a wall of story ideas and notes for G.I. Joe 3 as we spoke. When asked what sorts of story ideas they were playing with, the scribes said that they wanted to “resurrect the Baroness like a zombie” in this next one. Now, the Barnoness didn’t actually die in the first film, so she wouldn’t need resurrection as such. We think the team just has zombies on the brain as they’ve recently launched their Amazon Zombieland pilot. They also may have meant that they’d like to see the character receive a “proper” treatment versus what was – in the minds of many fans – an odd interpretation of the iconic Joe villainess in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. It’s interesting that they called out the Baroness specifically, though, as she was one of the few villains not mentioned in Retaliation."

Evil Baroness? Awesome. Zombie Baroness? Even if that just means "mindless killer," no. The only "zombie" I wanna see is Duke given how terribly they handled his departure.

Love the idea that someone had about Baroness coming back and freeing Destro.
