I haven't seen the original Dawn of the Dead. BobO'Link told me I could borrow it but I don't know if I would be interested in watching it. What are your thoughts on it?

Cool! I'd initially put in a few syncing items hoping one would be chosen and then decided it was just too risky as they might *not* be chosen at which point I'd just watch one anyway (which I've done once so far). I then changed my strategy to putting in stuff that doesn't qualify for the next few challenges and might provide a bit of diversion. I *may* rethink that...

I've not seen the remake but think the original is a fun little ride. But then I also like the original Night of the Living Dead which you think is a bore.

Wish I would have bought the blu-ray since it looks to have gone OOP awhile ago.

As for the remake/reboot/whatever people want to call it, it's not that bad for a standalone film but I greatly prefer the original.

I also watch Night of the Living Dead a lot as a kid. It was one of the few movies we had recorded on VHS. I think the Amazing Stories episode of Mummy Daddy was before or after it, since I watched the hell out of that too.

Those genuinely have been on my to-watch list for a while, though I don't feel bad about most of them.

I appreciate the chance to double-count as I might not have participated in this one otherwise. Viewing time is tough to find!

I did take the risk of putting Three Godfathers on my last month's list but it wasn't picked! If it had, I MIGHT have just waited till this month to watch it anyway.

I purchased the "U.S. Theatrical Release" DIVIMAX SE (it the 127 minute, unrated director's cut, with the famous "Goblin" soundtrack in DTS). That was partly due to it being rather inexpensive at the time, I'd never seen it before and felt this was probably the best one with which to start, plut it is Romero's preferred version, which was the tipping point. It also has a commentary track by Romero which I've never listened to.

I think it makes sense seeing how challenges are the main draw in these parts of the forum. It'll also help out with those times where you don't know what to watch and spend over an hour deciding.

Heck... I've spent that long selecting a *replacement* title to go in my list here!

I *still* have that angst over what to watch *even with* a selection made here! My current assignment here is Barry Lyndon, which meshes with the Historical Challenge, but it's a bit over 3 hours long! I tend to watch films of that length on the weekend as it's difficult to work that in during the week, mainly because I tend to fall asleep between 9-10pm (yep... on the couch in mid-viewing) and don't usually start watching stuff until around 7pm. Of course length is a problem with many of the films I want to watch for the Historical Challenge with many being 2.5+ hours, even the older films I tend to prefer. If I feel there's a chance I'll fall asleep I'll put it off because I don't like to watch a film in several sessions. I don't start them earlier in the evening as I also don't want to interrupt the viewing with supper so films don't get started until we've finished the meal.

Double Indemnity was excellent. I liked the drawn out plot of the crime, and Robinson(going against role) figuring it out. I was expecting a bigger twist, but thought it all worked out.

Even Dwarfs Started Small was weird. Not really having a plot, it's just following a bunch of dwarfs that escaped their institution and do what inmates do when they run amok. I'll plan on revisiting it sometime to listen to the commentary.

The first film I saw with MacMurray as a sleazebag was The Apartment. It was somewhat of a shock as I'd never seen him in such a role before (and I've been watching movies for ~50 years when I first saw that film). I then found out he'd had several roles playing sleazebag/villains - essentially going against "type". He's quite good in those roles.

Lucky you. If you liked DOUBLE INDEMNITY and THE APARTMENT, you should also see him in PUSHOVER (1954).

There's probably a western or two where MacMurray played a less-than-noble character. Offhand, I'm thinking THE MOONLIGHTER (1953), which reunited him with Barbara Stanwyck. Not a good movie, but an interesting one. Much better is a Douglas Sirk movie that reunited him with Stanwyck, THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW (1956).

Although there is really not much plot, My Neighbor Totoro is definitely a charming movie. It was just the thing to watch after a very long week of work.

You have several excellent films on your list but I finally settled on Tora! Tora! Tora because today is the anniversary of D-Day which may have never happened had the Japanese not attacked Pearl Harbor. I may watch that one myself later today as I have a unopened copy awaiting my attention.

I finally got around to watching Barry Lyndon (1975) this morning. It's one of the few Kubrick films I'd never seen. It was quite good. I'd been told it's "slow" but I'd say it's more "deliberate" in its telling of the story. I'd watch it again.

The Bad Ones had a decent idea. A bounty hunter chases a guy back to his hometown, where the people help him, until they realize he isn't the good guy he used to be. The action isn't very good, let alone realistic, such as the pinpoint accuracy of shots from people not even looking where they're shooting and double barrel shotgun that doesn't need reloading to keep firing.

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. It's quite spectacular. If you're a fan of podcasts and/or film discussions, The Canon podcast has an episode on the film that is fun listening.

I finally, finally got around to watching Thelma & Louise yesterday. While I knew several things about the film (including the iconic, oft-parodied ending), I didn't quite know what to expect. Needless to say, I loved it and cannot believe it took me this long to watch it. Susan Sarandon is one of my favorite actresses so now I don't have to be embarrassed about not seeing her big film.

I'm replacing Thelma & Louise with Gomorrah which may not qualify as essential viewing but was the first blu-ray I ever received (before I had the player). It's sat on my shelf ever since.

Kiss Them for Me (1957). Grant is the main reason I purchased the film. I don't think I've ever seen a Grant film I didn't like at least a little and this was no exception. It was a fun, and rather typical, little WWII "guys on leave" time killer. While Jayne Mansfield got 2nd billing I was glad her screen time didn't reflect her place in the billing. She was her typical "blonde bimbo" self. Much better was Grant's "love interest" in the film, Suzy Parker. Ray Walston had a fun part as did Werner Klemperer. I was surprised to see Nancy Kulp (aka Beverly Hillbillies Jane Hathaway) in a small role. Overall it was very enjoyable.

I also watched Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) again. It's still one of my favorite war films. Reportedly it's very accurate to the events as they played out. It certainly shows in the details on the screen.

If you like it, check out the version in the Golden Age of Television, Criterion set. Then watch the other shows in the set because they're all pretty good.

I like Tora! Tora! Tora! enought to watch the 3 documentaries that were also on the disc. Sounds like critics were expecting a straight war movie and gave it bad marks since it was really a docudrama.
