Though I enjoyed it, it really wasn't all that LOL funny. sure it had it's moments of comedy. Just hope you dont have your hopes up high as it's a sort of indie humor.

I never laughed at the trailer. In fact, every time I see it, I cringe. I'll go watch Rushmore again.

wow! looks funny to me...but my humor is seriously different than most. oh well, sorry nobody else cares for it. i think im gonna find this one hilarious.

jacksekelton, is indie humor not good. i tend to like that humor better than what is available in most movies (ie didnt care for the mainstreamer like american pie, etc)

No, don't get me wrong, I love indie humor. But it's a different breed of humor.

Take for example Lost in translation, Rushmore, Royal Teenibaums, etc. It's funny, but in a different way. from all those Napolean Dynamite wasn't as great as those others though it still had that dry humor layed in there.

That was a pretty damn funny trailer - seems like it will be filled with a lot of subtle humor (best kind IMO).

Saw this last night, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It had me laughing out loud really hard much of the time. The audience seemed to be really into it as well. It made my night last night.

I just did a screening of this in UC Irivine. A few Inside jokes, however I thought it is very funny.
I recommend this movie

If you liked "Welcome to the Dollhouse", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind " and "The Wonder Years"

Great stuff...though...what's the point?

I laughed quite a bit during the movie, but you just come out of it wondering...why?

Very funny. Recommended.

(might wanna change the thread title since it's misspelled... for people who do a search on this baby)

Saw it yesterday at an advance screening and loved it. At the very least it's worth a rental. I can see someone not getting into it, but there were many moments I was laughing like a loon. Some of my fave flicks are of offbeat goofballs (see "American Movie")

can someone tell why that girl with the pony tail pulled to the side looked so weird? The one that asked about he "liger".

She looks like they shot her on different film stock or she was editied in later. OR at least she did in the trailer.

I read somewhere that the writer/director wasn't even aware of the Costello reference. I can't remember where he said he got the name from.

Actually you can read the interview where he says he never knew about the Costello reference right here..

CS!: Where did the name come from?
Hess: I was a Mormon missionary in Venezuela and in Chicago for two years when I was 19. In Chicago, I met an old Italian guy, who came over and his name was Napoleon Dynamite. I wrote it down since that was the freshest name I've ever heard. We shot the film in July of 2003 and two days before we wrapped, one of our extras was like "Yeah, so is this named after Elvis Costello's alias name on one of his albums?" I got online that night after we wrapped and found out that there was an album in 1986, where he used that name. Had I known that before I shot it, I probably would have changed the name. It was an interesting coincidence because I'm not a Costello fan.

This movie looks hilarious. That "sweet jumps" scene had me choking on my drink. This looks a lot like the stupid crap my friends and I come up with that we think is funny but everyone else thinks it's just stupid crap.
