There are two t-shirts that I have. One is the 'Vote For Pedro' shirt that Napolean wears in the movie. The other says a bunch of crap about voting for Summer. They both say 'Napoleon Dynamite - In theaters Summer 2004' on the back.

First THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA, and now this.

Two films this year that I've wanted to walk out on.

Who thinks this film is funny, and please gimme an idea why you do. Comedy is subjective, and I need some subjectiving...

This film will devide a great deal. there will be those who like it and there will be those who HATE it. I was on the fence. during the film I was a little bored at times. the pacing is off some and you ask yourself why. Then during the mid way point I just let myself sit back and try to enjoy it. Not care all that much about it and just let it sit. After that point I really did start enjoying it. the comedy was there in random points and I stopped questioning what was going on and just enjoyed it. I can see why some folks may dislike it with a passion, but I can see why some will enjoy it some. I'll say it again, this is Indie humor. not for everyone and very dry at times.

Has anyone seen a photo of what Jon Heder REALLY looks like?

It's like Charlize. A nice looking person who frightens himself/herself up.

I completely agree Jack. The humor in it is very subjective. To me, if you don't laugh at the opening shot of the film, then you probably won't like it. I myself laughed my ass off during the opening shot

I have a question. For those of you who have attended the free screenings, does Fox Searchlight give you an e-mail or anything or do you just show up at the theater box office and ask to see the film?

Does anyone have a release dates list for each city? I can't get into the official site. And everywhere else I've looked only lists June 11th.
Thanks.

I also loved it, saw it at the Sunshine on E.Houston a few weeks back. I was laughing the whole time.

man...i laughed at this film so much and so damn hard.

uncle cracked me up. "want to watch my film...watch this move!" or "if i had a time machine i would win a state championship!"

i was in frickin tears!

this movie doesnt use sexual jokes or cussing to make you laugh. you are are a "crude humor" person you probably wont like it. i know many people that just think it is hilarious when someone say F_CK...i dont understand what it is that makes people laugh when people say it (im usually pretty pissed off when i do) but like some of you have said, some peoples humor is different than others.

walk out? jeesh I was trying to stay awake... it was okay, not good, not great either. I was expecting a lot more out of this movie with all the masturbutory critic's praises it's been receiving. There were some minimul funny parts, and even though the two teenagers who were in front of me were laughing the most, the rest of the audience (of about 25) were pretty much quiet for the entirety of the film. It all came across as attempt to create something out of nothing.

If you go to the website there's a section about upcoming screenings. Click on that and see if there's one in your area. For mine, I had to RSVP. They then sent me an e-mail confirming but made very clear that this did not guarantee me a seat. It was a first come - first serve basis. When I got there, they asked me for my name. When I left they handed out passes for another screening at a different theatre.

This movie was flippin sweet! I laughed my ass off. The theatre was packed and there was lots of laughter from the audience. Even a bunch of clapping at the end. Besides the one chick who was directly in front of me, everyone else surrounding me was laughing pretty damn hard. The chick was with her boyfriend, who was laughing, but kinda seemed like he was holding back cause his girl just was not having a good time.

There were a couple of slow, non-funny parts. And a couple of scenes where I took it too seriously and instead of laughing, I kinda felt sorry for the characters.

Tons of physical comedy. Not really slapstick. Just visual more than verbal. The characters movements, faces, actions & reactions.

Got a free Tee - "Vote For Pedro". They had the "Summer" shirt also, but that was sorta "girly" looking. After the show they gave out buttons, stickers, & chapstick - "my lips hurt real BAD!".

"I see you're drinking 1%. Is that cause you think your fat?"

Saw this tonight and, despite some pacing issues, found it overall to be very entertaining! I found the humor in being able to identify, on some level, that kid in me 20 years ago. They were giving out "liger" shirts at my theater. They also were giving passes to use at another sneak of the movie for this Saturday, and if I bring the pass AND wear my "liger" shirt, I get more free stuff!!!

I saw this last night too, a co worker had free advance passes and couldn't go so he hooked me up. The local Drexel chain has a membership club ($65/yr?) you can get these advance screening passes if you join. They gave us free t-shirts with one of Dynamite's drawings on the front , buttons that say "vote for summer" chapstick, and passes and a card to future screenings and if you go to all three you can mail something in for free stuff.

The movie itself had some very funny parts. Good subtle humor that some people might not find amusing. Anyone notice those sexual undertones? There were some slower parts that kind of creeped by, but overall I liked it. This may be a movie that many people either love or hate. I thought it had some great comedic moments, but not a masterpiece by far. Some pretty silly moments too. I'm sure this will be a big cult hit.

"I caught you a delicious bass"

Good rental material.

I thought the movie had a bunch of great one liners and hilarious moments, but seemed to be lacking something on the whole. I can't put my finger on it. I am going to see it again Thursday. The t-shirt I got had a stack of tater tots on the front and said get your own tots or something to that nature.

The audience really liked it. Most of the theatre clapped at the end, but a few people walked out.
