Was any contra game outside of an NES console good?

I vaguely remember playing Contra: Hard Corps(or whatevre the name was) on the Genesis. It was okay, but lacked the Contra tone, just like the Genesis Castlevania game was lacking. How were the PSX Contra games? They had pretty bad to mediocre reviews, but I haven't heard from anybody that's actually played them. I have a chance to get them used at a local store, but I want to know how are they first.

I don't think that anything could match or beat the original Contra Game. I still play it every once and a while.
I've played a couple of the later games and they weren't that good. A friend of mine used to like playing the SNES one(I think).

The SNES one is awesome, although it is not as playable as the original obviously. Now I just need to hunt that game down since I don't know where my cartridge went.

I loved the gameboy one -- only 4 levels, but a lot of fun. My copy let me play the levels in any order -- hmmm. maybe because it wasn't an original
