The only game listed I would try is Halo... the other 7 I have no interest at all in. Funny how they never release an RPG when the console comes out.

Halo is gonna rock so hard. Man I d/l the first video from the macworld last spring and dang....It's gonna be the best. Especially with multiplayer. One person drives the jeep, someone else rides shotgun with a third person manning the machine gun on the rear -- too cool.

There are a couple action/adventure titles shipping at launch -- Azurik and Nightcaster -- albeit not true RPGs.

Code Gotham looks pretty cool as a racer too.

Are there previews of these games somewhere?

Specifically, Azurik, Gotham, and Nightcaster. It's kinda difficult to form an opinion of a game when literally all we know about it is its title.

Well, I figure Gotham is a racer of some sort, but there are no screens and little other info.

To answer my own question, check out http://www.dailyradar.com for previews of these specific games. Holy crap, the graphics rock.

yeah, despite how much i hate them i signed up for their little x-box newsletter. (which is where billarockstar got his info i suspect). IGN also has a section devoted to x-box and i would guess Gamespot does too.

Halo is the only one I would consider getting right now. Of course I haven't been able to find out a lot about m several of the titles.

Gotham will be a must-buy for me. MSR, though it took ages to arrive, is brilliant. I'm still working my way through it, still enjoying it. I'm really interested in what Bizarre will do with it on Xbox. GT who?

Fuzion Frenzy looks like fun. The mini-game genre is very interesting to me. Halo of course will be big. Malice might be good, but good adventure/platform games are sizable projects (like Munch), so I'm curious if Argonaut's been working on it for long. As for the others, yawn.

people, you realize that these are the first/second party releases by Microsoft and not all companies, right? EA, Konami, Capcom, Namco, Midway, Acclaim are all going to have launch titles too.

Uh, I remember when Square said they would support the N64 and they even released some early screenshots of FF running on emulated N64 hardware. But we all know how that turned out.

Speaking of 3rd party support, check out what Konami is saying about the Xbox now...not good at all.

Their statements didn't seem so bad. They're just expressing caution over a foreign company with no experience in the field and a system that is 6 months away. A successful Japanese company presenting a cautious front, imagine that. Konami apparently still has 10 X-Box games in development, which is what really matters.

Regarding the launch games, the graphics look great, but I hope Microsoft will have more shooters and action games. Halo looks sweet, but the rest all appear to be fantasy or racing/sports. I hope Microsoft will have more 'tactical espionage action' like Syphon Filter and Metal Gear. Or FPS games. I think they're more popular than fantasy games at the moment.

I don't think the X-box will have a great launch. So many companies are playing wait and see that it may make for a rough start. The X-box has to be very careful not to make the same mistakes that Trip Hawkins made with the 3DO.

I think you are reading waaaay too much into this article. Sure Konami is going to fully support PS2 over the XBox in Japan since no U.S. made gaming system has ever made it in Japan. Now on the otherhand, Konami U.S. is fully aware that the Xbox will steal the thunder from the PS2 and possibly even surpass it in sales. With that said, Konami has definate plans for 3 Xbox launch titles, Crash Bandicoot X, Spyro X, and Jurassic Park 3. I'm sure they'll have more, but those are the big 3.

VERY impressive, especially given these are first-party games. NFL Fever 2002 definitely has me interested, but as a veteran of the Visual Concepts' football efforts on the DC, it's gonna be damn hard for somebody to top the gameplay of those games. And Gotham...oh my God, did you see those screens? The reflections on the cars? Wow...and Amped looked great as well.

Overall, a rather impressive showing from Microsoft...I can't wait to see the third-party stuff at E3!

Just a little reality check guys.

I was lucky enough to attend Gamestock and here is the scoop:

These are NOT all launch titles. Those will be announced at E3. Gamestock is a way for Microsoft to show off 1st party games in development to the press- both PC and XBox.

I have to say to those who were underwhelmed by the grainy web video of Xbox games- hold on to your butts. The games looked AMAZING in person. Halo made me giddy. Munch's Oddysee blew me away. And the Xbox controller is surprisingly comfortable.

Sony's E3 unveiling of the PS2 last year left me underwhelmed. Developers weren't terribly excited about working on the hardware and the games showed it.

I was an Xbox doubter until Gamestock. I walked away convinced Microsoft was going to hold its own in the console market.

And this coming from a die hard Mac user!

Yeah, I can't really tell by just the titles of the game. Reminds me of that scene in Ed Wood when he is pitching his ideas to the hollywood executive that he gave a reel of "Glen or Glenda" to. Damn, that was funny.

Ahh! First party games should be the best. They built the darn hardware! If they can't make good games then there probally is a problem.
