I gotta laugh about how you guys are complaining about "The Bouncer" and how your fancy expensive PS2's have no good games and all that.

All the while, I'm playing Counterstrike, a mod of a 3 year old game for PC and having a helluva time.

There's a million times more fun and playibility in 10 dollar bargain bin Half Life than there is for the entire PS2 Lineup.

I agree, I spend my days playing Unreal Tournament - Tactical Ops' which is FREE (you have to buy UT though) and it sure beats any console game I've ever played.

I've got UT, but never really liked it. I may have to try tactical ops. Frankly, I wasted money on both Q3 and UT since the only game I play is Half Life.

Well I agree with you to a point. Anybody who bought a PS2 and complains that there are no good games for it are morons. Why would you buy a system if there aren't any games you want to play? I personally am loving the hell out of Ridge Racer V, and also have enjoyed Tekken Tag just for nostalgia's sake. I've also rented Smuggler's Run, Star Wars Starfighter, and ATV Offroad, and have found them all to be excellent games. Over the next few years, I have no doubt I'll get my money's worth out of the PS2, just like the other 12 systems I've owned in my life.

And I don't play PC games, so I guess I can't argue with you on that point.

The last game I played on my PC was Super Mario Bros. 3 under "RockNESx"... That's how "enthused" about modern games I've been...

I agree that alot of people do feel jipped with there purchase of PS2. However, I feel jipped into having to spend 300 dollars every year to keep my PC up to spec for the newest games...

Sorry, just a bit of jab in the side. Both PC's AND consoles have short comings. I think what you are refering to though is valid. Sony has NOT delivered what they promised with the PS2. No wonder people are complaining.

(I'm sure now I will get alot of people quoting me and telling me how happy they are with the PS2 and that it is delivering what it promised. Bring it.)

Meh. I don't know how you have to spend $300 a year to keep your computer up to spec? I mean, what did you start with? Halflife (and thus Cstrike) require a P166 (though I admit it would likely suck with that. Still the fact remains that there are plenty of good games out there for any system and in most cases a crappy computer will still play most games if you turn off a few graphical options. Admittedly some of the newer ones are pushing the min. graphical specs (ie. Giants, and probably Black and White), but most of them are VERY backwards compatible wrt to system req's.

Shadow of Destiny is a real blessing for me. I am really glad to see this game come along. Finally going to get some good use out of the PS2. With Onimusha on the way the PS2 line up is starting to really look up. All consoles start out slow. Sony has to rely on third parties more than Nintendo and Sega did, so things were a little worse for them.

Where the heck did you get Half-Life for $10? Greedy Sierra has been repackaging the game every year or two so they they can sell it for $25-30. I was looking for a copy to run Counterstrike on last fall and everyone was long sold out of the plain (cheap) edition HL.

But Counterstrike is great. The Italy stage is glorious!

There are two newer mods that are even better in some ways. Frontline Force and a WW2 one whose name escapes me at the moment.

The WW2 one you're probably thinking of is Day of Defeat. I played that a few days and Frontline Force for about a week, but I have yet to see anything better than CS. I'd be interested to know what features you thought made them better than CS? Admittedly they haven't been around as long, but I played CS starting back with beta 2 or 3 the summer before last summer and I have to say that I still haven't had a comparable multiplayer experience (not taking MMORPG's) into account.

I am however definitely waiting for Wasteland Halflife 1.2 (or some new number) -- they've got some great new ideas and I love the theme. http://www.wastelandhalflife.com The new graphics and models are definitely tops too.

I love Rogue Spear, but its MS GAming Zone Multiplayer interface SUCKS.

Two of my favorite games are Rogue Spear and High Heat Baseball 2001, but that MS Gaming Zone doth blow.

Am i the only person who was totally addicted to Aliens vs. Predator? Online play mixing up three races was an absolute blast for the longest time... if only i had a broadband connection it would have kept my attention even longer.

First off, if you play any modern game on Min requirements it always sucks. Don't even try and argue that. Second, how much did your PC cost? Now divide that cost over the total years you will be using it to play games. If you plan on upgrading at all over time factor in that cost too.

300 bucks is a conservative estimate too. PC's just cost more compared to consoles. Please do not try and argue this.

One thing you can do with a computer is create your own levels. Quite a few PC games come with level editors or you can get them on the 'net. Either way, you are really expanding the life of your games (just look at all the total conversions of Half-Life).

I will say this about gaming platforms: The games don't have as many bugs. I have played quite a few PC games that didn't run properly or just crashed every 5 minutes, and it sucks when you spent $50 + and now you can't return it.

These are both good points. As I said in my original post both methods of playing have their downfalls.

It's been my experience that although computer games are good, consoles are better. Computer games you have to sit at your desk, and stare at the monitor rather closely. Consoles you get to lay on the couch, floor, recliner whatever and watch the game on your tv which is more comfortable IMHO.
Consoles also turn on at the press of a button, and if you wish you can surf the web or talk to people while playing your game, something you cant do on computer. I dunno, computer games never interested me, specially since the ones i have played have given me "illegal action" notices and i've had to shut down and restart. It just seems more of an annoyance than worth while. Give me a console anyday.

Here we go yet again, another PC vs. console debate. Yeah, let's just compare apples and oranges while we're at it.

If PC users are too thick-headed to understand the myriad of reasons why a person might buy a console vs. a PC, and vice-versa, then you shouldn't even be on the net. Period.

Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and there are valid reasons either way. Sometimes it just boils down to money. I've been in these debates on Usenet for years now, and it looks like it'll never end.

I like Frontline Force more because it has some of the realism of CS in its characters & weapons (as opposed to the outright cartoonishness of TFC), but with MUCH shorter respawn times. The worst thing in CS is getting shot 30 seconds into the round and having to wait for the game to finish. Especially if you just bought a good weapon. Which brings up another point: You don't get a chance to really use the cool but ineffective weapons in CS like the Para. You die too quickly and it burns your cash. Whereas in FLF you can try out the weapons to your heart's content because you respawn quickly and it doesn't cost anything. FLF's relaxed soldier class system works better than TFC.

Also, FLF gets rid of CS' annoying "hopping bunny rabbit" bullet dodging!

The graphics in both are very good. I like CS' counterterrorism theme and ideas (and thus art direction) more than the generic military stuff in FLF. But FLF has Avanti, which is one of the greatest stages ever IMHO.

The perfect game for me would be one that combines the CS setting and weapons with FLF's gameplay (plus Avanti).

I like Day of Defeat merely because of the WW2 setting. Haven't played it too much yet because I started Deus Ex recently.

BTW, thanks for the Wasteland HL link. Looks like another great mod!
