my ps2 makes an unbelievable sound when accessing the disc
in fact it seems to make the sound for long intervals on most games!
I can ven hear in downstairs in my house!
Is this just my machine or....

How do you have your system displayed? Flat or veritcal? I have mine vertical and it's not very noisy. I hear it, but nowhere near as loud as my Dreamcast.

Vertical is not recommended, even by Sony. It's loud, but more importantly, it will damage the discs. Not slowly over time, but just suddenly put a scratch right around the middle.

Now, Dreamcast, that's a loud system. When I first got the thing, I was afraid all the loading straight off the disc would break it.

Mine is really noisy too. But since I have surround sound I don't here it much with the volume up. Also I havn't had much to play on it latly.

My PS2 is much louder than either of the Dreamcasts I've owned (import and domestic), except for when playing Soul Calibur (we all know how "loud" that game is). I rented SSX and I thought the PS2 was going to blow up! Most PS2 games aren't overly loud though, just louder than DC.

I expect my PS2 to break down long before my Dreamcast will.
