by the way there is also a possibility of an accessory available for both the game boy color and the gba that will allow users to connect the game system to a cell phone for internet gaming. not sure if this will be realized over here.

one more thing..., i know i could edit but that wouldnt get my post numbers up now would it, anyways sega has signed with nintendo and will make games featuring sonic among others for the game boy color and most likely the game boy advance. interesting isnt it. i havent heard of something like this happening before. one of the major factions of the video game industry making games for another tribe? these truly are the last days.

It's no secret that Sega is moving out of the hardware business and focusing on what they do best--games. Sega's also developing for the PS2 (Virtua Fighter 4). No confirmation yet on X-Box or Gamecube, but I'd be willing to guess they'll be there, too.

Anyone know if anyone is taking pre-orders yet for GBA? I'm not missing out on this one at launch.

Thanks!
Dave

Sega Reps have openingly committed to GameCube, even going to so far to say it is the best next gen system. (Cube.ign.com)

A lot of people have been saying this, pointing at it being compararable in power to the other systems, and much easier to develop for. I hope it works out that way, the more third party publisher, the longer the system stays successful, which means more great first party and Rare games.

Well, I love DC and all, but it is dying, AND it is almost 3 years old in japan. It's not really next gen anymore. (Interesting how it still competes with PS2 though huh?)

As far as there next system, I doubt you will see anything from Sega for at least 2 hardware cycles. They need to start making money before they start spending it again.

I thought the GBA was only costing around $80 in Japan. I hope its not an example of Nintendo dumping on the American Market again. Thats what Europe is for.

and puerto rico. remember the game boy color shortage christmas 99? i was trying to find one in time for christmas for my younger brother and sister but no dice. i had to order it from electronics boutique and didn't get till two weeks into jan. well i talked with one guy and he said that one reason for the shortage was that eb was sending some of their shipment to their stores in puerto rico so they could jack up the price and make more mulah. interesting huh?

that brings up another question. portable gaming systems shouldn't be region encoded should they be? if that is true couldnt you pick one up from one of your many Japanese buddies whenever it comes out there?

They arn'y "regionally" encoded like DVD no... But look closely at your gamepaks for your normal gameboy. See the notch on the top? That notch is there because when you flip on the power a latch comes over. It's there to make sure the game is in the right way, and guess what? In japan its on the oppisite side.

Well, that's esy enough to get around. just break the latch. Well sure, but you also have to deal with the way the cart is "shaved". If you look at it you will notce a 45 degree angle across the bottem parts of the cart. It coresponds to the gameboy. So to get around this you would have to do some heavy modification to the GB.

Now I should mention that I'm pulling this all from memory, so I may be wrong. Also its not a guarantee that will be the case with the GBA. However it's likely because it's backward compatable.

http://www.gamestop.com has them on preorder with two games (Mario advance and F-Zero Maximum Velocity for $169.97 + s/h.

For those that want it right after the japanese release date, http://www.buyrite.net/advance/gbadvance.html, Not a very good price, but may be worth it for those that want it 3 months early.
