I love the idea of Men's and Women's College Basketball are returning, but it will be at least 2028 before we see it.

this is great news... but lest we forget how shitty their last basketball game was. I don't have a lot of confidence in EA basketball games.

I'm kind of surprised considering they don't have another basketball game to piggy back off of.

re: EA Sports College Basketball to return (update: DEAD)

Looks like this is dead for now.

Some schools are signing with 2K to be apart of the NBA2K series so EA isn't moving forward. Sounds like certain teams will be DLC in ultimate team in the NBA games and there won't be a standalone college game.

It really is. I wonder if EA was offering a flat fee for every school given how enormous the scope they were proposing was, and 2K was offering a relative handful of schools a whole lot more.

I kinda wonder if direct NIL money wasn't a factor given I'm sure 2k would pony up for the top college players

They announced deals with "more than 100 programs" today. That's a relatively huge handful.

The same as MrX above, I was going by what was reported/announced at the time I posted, at which point 2K’s plans were reported as NBA2K DLC:

With this, a key difference between the two products would be their approaches to creating the game. EA Sports was written to be looking for a "wide-ranging game incorporating every Division I men's and women's team," while 2K is "narrower in focus" as theirs would currently be "built around the biggest brands in the sport", Portnoy noted at SBJ.
Unlike EA Sports, the 2K bid did not call for the inclusion of every single D-I men's and women's basketball program. Instead, a different CLC memo detailed the 2K proposal as a non-exclusive license to produce a "5v5 tournament gameplay format integrated into NBA 2K MyTeam Mode via downloadable content (DLC)." 2K would evaluate the viability of a standalone college basketball title, depending on the financial performance of college basketball DLC.
EA’s plans were to include both men and women’s programs for something like 361 schools.

Re: EA Sports College Basketball to return (update: DEAD)

The release from 2K doesn't say anything about a new game, it just says experience so it could just be an add on to the NBA series.

I read something where EA wanted exclusive use of the college teams, while the 2K deals are non-exclusive so EA still could have made the game.

Re: EA Sports College Basketball to return (update: DEAD)

It would've been interesting but they basically have to make a basketball game from scratch, so losing that exclusivity was probably a deal breaker for them.

When was the last time EA made a good simulation (non-arcade) basketball game?

I would have preferred EA and 2K both doing CBK games to give consumers options rather than EA just throwing in thr towel and now 2K being the only one like they have now with NBA.

Me too, though I have my doubts that the first iteration of an EA basketball game would be any good (or better than 2k if they were competing head to head).

Which year Live had Vince Carter on it? I remember that one being good. So, PS2.

Here's the announcement from NBA 2K26. I don't see 100+ programs listed, but I still want to give this a try. Glad I grabbed it for $23.
