Re: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - 7/17/25

Guys. GUYS. They finally did it. They made a Donkey Kong game just for me. This is going to be a time sink. I'm in love with it. 26 minutes of playing just flew by. Another half an hour and time for bed but I can't wait til the weekend.

Since the game is officially out I'm guessing we can now talk about it. I read in one review that everything you gather helps you with bosses so I'm pretty much grinding now for the final bosses

I put in 50 minutes today and I haven't even walked through
Spoiler:
The red door.

I'm going to stay in this area for a few days until I reach 10k coins. I'm at 1200 so far.
Spoiler:
The conveyor belt literally delivers coins to you nonstop.

This is a blast for me.

Now time to be a responsible adult and go to bed so that I can function tomorrow. Bah humbug.

This is $62.99 at Costco if you’re a member.

Yeah but it's a physical copy with a code to download and after tax it was like a dollar less where I live, so I was like meh I'm getting it straight from Nintendo.

this game is pure art. It is gorgeous to look at. the cartoony nature of the environments and the characters gives this world such life and vigor. Now, on to the gameplay. Quite simply it is pure fun, pure enjoyment. I might have only played for a little while, but this will be my game going forward, hopefully. I don't want to get distracted and move onto something else with this beauty. this is a game for the kid inside you, but the difficulty definitely ramps up and is perfect for us, adults, as well. Beautifully crafted, will be much loved and will go down as one of the best almost launch title for the Switch 2. This is sheer brilliance and sheer fun.

DK is the full game on the cart. Not a virtual key or download code.

Yeah, the download part is wrong. But $63 + 8% tax is $68. And digital (not taxed in this state), using Costco eShop credit is $70 x 0.9 or $63 instead. So it works out cheaper.
If you used New Egg eShop certificates that I posted last week (like I did) it works out to be $70 x .85, or $59.50

I've had the SW2 less than a week so I didn't get into the Newegg but I did get $200 worth of eshop for $180.

Just picked up the DK Amibo. Finally got to use my monthly Game Stop $5 coupon for something I couldn't get cheaper elsewhere. It's nicely detailed.

Oh crap I forgot about the amiibo.

....oh yeah they're $30 now so they're a lot easier to get.

eh....amiibo aren't nearly the impulse purchase they once were when they were < $20. Forget $80 games. $30 + $40 amiibos are the most egregious Nintendo price increase this generation.

It's a lot more expensive, but it's also a lot better quality than the cheaper older ones.

Probably not.
You can re-buy and return the other one.

My time is worth more than going to Kohls or UPS to save a few dollars.

If you're prime they might. Use the chat. And they'll tell you it's a one time courtesy every time you do it I've had them pricematch lower prices on their own site.

How is everyone liking it? I'm still enjoying Fantasy Life too much to put it down. Let me DK Slam vicariously!

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - 7/17/25

It's really cute. I just barely started playing it, but I'm having just a little difficulty orienting myself in 3D space, wandering through walls and making tunnels everywhere. I'm sure I'll get it figured out, but for right now it's a little confusing to me.
Brought my S2 to work. Will play some during lunch.

Assist Mode adds arrows where you need to go and both modes if you go to the map there's an option to reset the terrain to where it started.

I'm having a blast. Still worried about the bosses since I suck at games.

This game. I can't tell if I'm playing Donkey Kong or at a nightclub Music is banging.

And arrived on release day for me. Good to know for the future since Nintendo games tend to not get price reductions.

Me too. I know I started playing late at night on an empty stomach, but I was actually getting a little nauseous playing it. In my old age, have I become one of the players Nintendo used to post warnings to on Gamecube/Wii games? BTW, whatever happened to those "seizure" warnings?

I read there's a setting somewhere that helps with motion sickness.

seizures warnings are still on some games that can trigger one.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - 7/17/25

I'm stuck sigh
Spoiler:

You can't climb anything in front of you, the grey goes up and down, and I can't figure out how to proceed. I tried tunneling below it and I tunneled myself off the side of a mountain and down a red balloon

And that's a screenshot of a picture reduced in size 72%.

And yes I get that
Spoiler:
the red rock sticks but I keep slamming into it or slamming one red into the other red and destroying the steps I already placed

Edit: Looked up the answer and it turns I had no idea about an important game mechanic. Would have never figured it out on my own.
