Even with that, stuff like Sonic x Shadow and Puyo Puyo Tetris were the barest minimum of upgrades over the switch versions (with no cross save or upgrade path).

Even something like Fast Fusion probably did worse than Fast RMX if only because the switch 2 launched with a 1st party racing game (and technically has F-zero GX if you have the subscription)

But I'd love it if the takeaway is that we don't want game-key cards.

One of the factors here are that launch games are rarely make or break, and a lot are forgettable, Nintendo titles excluded. Nobody is talking about Timesplitters for PS2 today, but Mario 64 is still mentioned.

Third party publishers are trying to get their foot in the door and are putting out remasters of older games and some small originals which is a way to ease in.

This is like when a new channel comes out on cable. A typical path is they launch in the Summer, start off with 90% of their block focused on re-runs, and maybe cheaper in-studio content. Then they take time to build up original programming for the Fall. FX in 1995 was Batman from the 60s every day, and other older shows. Fox Family in the summer of 98 was the same concept.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I mean Timesplitters is still remembered because of the ex-RARE developers and mostly Timesplitters 2 which was a big leap. But yeah, especially in this day and age where global launch is at the same day everywhere, we don't have the same kind of launch titles like we did for say Dreamcast.

Plus if you're new to the Switch ecosystem altogether, there is even more competition for your dollar because of backward compatibility and upgrades.

I kind of doubt that game is gonna be a surprise stealth drop. Just put up the wrong ad.

Yeah, they are at least going to give it some time after DK releases to put this one out.

That's very interesting. Yeah that's exactly why I kept the whole package sealed and it's a good thing you did too. A simple clerical error and you could end up with a no return. Or even worse, one of those stolen S2's and have it bricked. That's exactly why I don't agree with Nintendo being able to brick your Switch remotely. I understand it, but I don't agree with it. There's just too many ways an innocent party would be targeted.

This is it exactly. I really hope that is the message loud and clear to the publishers. Not that the Switch isn't 3rd party friendly. We don't want game-key cards period. If you're going to sell it physically. Put the damn game on the cartridge.

Hopefully this will be limited to launch. I get that Nintendo probably just focused on producing one type of cartridge and then the game-key card. So hopefully it was a stop gap measure so 3rd parties could get their games out for launch and hopefully they will offer 3rd parties different sizes of cartridge with different prices.

But I can see publishers missing the entire point and forever going the cheap route and just putting their releases on those stupid things.

Once new titles get released I'm sure they'll do fine. Most of the people that bought a Switch 2 on launch probably own another console and have already played the titles they were interested in.

Looks like they covered up the release date? The "out now" seems to be an extra sticker to add once the game releases. But maybe it was on purpose to cover up the release date since that hasn't been announced?

Come on Nintendo!! Give us the Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 remasters already!!

It's going to take me awhile to go through all those before MP4.

Didn't you get a Switch 2 wireless GameCube controller? What would be the advantage of a Wavebird over that?

no advantage. I just love the GameCube. I'll probably switch off controllers, but to use my WaveBird again is going to be such a pleasure. It's my most favorite controller of all and I can't believe it is in still working shape with not a ding on it. I'll see which I like better and thus sell or something the other one.

In any case, I don't want a travel case that bulky and heavy inside of my travel backpack.
Hopefully that extra-small tomtoc one will work for me, whenever it finally gets here from Amazon
Well this arrived yesterday. I mostly like it. It's a tight fit, has room for 12 cards, but no mesh pouch for cords or wrist straps.
It's a lot more firm than the official Nintendo one, which has a lot of give. Not too heavy. And it has a handle. I will probably keep that one and return the Nintendo one.

Well, my WaveBird experiment didn't quite work out. it just doesn't have all the buttons to make the SW2 completely usable. Oh well. It was worth a try. I used it once and it just didn't feel right without all the other buttons, especially the Home button.

Wait, you were intending to play switch 2 games? I figured you wanted it to play GC games, in which case it should have all the buttons you need.

I only was going to use it for the GC games, not for SW2 games. The WaveBird just didn't quite work for The Wind Waker. You can't just go home or anything else you might be able to do with the Pro controller.

Did you expect a 20+ year old controller to have the buttons needed to power on/off a console that was just released this month? Can't even do that with a Switch 1 Pro Controller.

WaveBird was very usable on the Switch 1, so I thought I might get more enjoyment out of it, so I didn't know it wouldn't be compatible. Also, the Pro controller does have a home button that can turn Switch on the system, just like any other premium controller like the actual SW2 GC controller.

The S1 Pro Controller cannot turn on a Switch 2. You can go to the Home menu once it's on with the controller but that's it. The Home button will not turn the console on like a Pro Controller 2 would.

The WB had the same limitations on the S1. Can use it for games but couldn't turn it on/off or go to the Home menu.
