I got my Switch 2 from Costco up and running. I luckily received the bundle with a download code for Mario Kart World. Pretty easy process getting everything from my Switch over to my Switch 2. The downloads just take some time, but I'm sure the network is really busy right now with everyone setting up their new systems.

Forget Ganondorf, that camera is the main villain in that game.

Dumb cameras were a common issue in 3D games of that era.

It's manageable in this game, I think. Way worse in others, including Ocarina of Time.
I look forward to trying it with the GC controller that is waiting for me back at my house. Not sure it's any better, but would be fun to try.

I'm not sure. Was really surprised that 1.25 TB wasn't enough for literally anyone. But to be fair, you don't need to have every single game you own on the system at once anyways.

Don't you also have a second 1TB card? DL the rest of your games to that. I assume that's what you bought it for.

I do have a 1TB microsd card, but both are nearly full. but i will delete more. thanks Deck.

also, i love using the GC controller. it felt natural, like I've been using it all along. but i am going to try the Pro to see if that is any better.

Got completely sucked into Wind Waker the second I booted it up and heard the opening theme. Like an old friend you haven't seen in years. Finished up the first half of the game over the weekend. Sister is safe and it's time to save the world.

Again, you can see exactly what is taking up your storage, is there some mysterious "other" that's taking up a ton of space? Otherwise your games (and saves, don't underestimate saves especially for certain games like Minecraft) are taking up too much space.

I believe the switch 2 at least allows you to put your saves on the memory card now? I know for my switch 1, because we have so many users on one system we would routinely run out of onboard space and all of that had to be on there because saves could not be moved. Bottom line is you do not need all your games and certainly not all your saves on every system, particularly if you have cloud saves with nintendo online.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

no mysterious other. i deleted what i could and that i wasn't going to readily play or have on another console. it didn't do much and my save data i don't think is taking up much space.

But you don't have to think, you can see what is using the space right there, right?

yes, i could see what is taking up space and what is not. i deleted some big game files and got some memory back, but i fear for the future. i thought i would be safe with the increased internal storage and the 1TB express microSD card.

i don't have any sport games whatsoever, unless you count the racing games like MKW and Fast Fusion. that's the only 2 i have that is sports related.

What size of card did you have on the switch 1? Yes the switch 2 has more internal storage but not THAT much more and games will naturally be bigger especially the upgrades. Bottom line is that the transition between switch 1 and 2 is probably the perfect time to just port stuff over that you're playing, particularly if you're keeping the switch 1 around anyway.

Then I have no idea why you thought you'd be "safe" when it seems like you ported your whole catalog over?

There was no option for transferring certain games. It was all or nothing, I thought.

I think that is correct. There might have been a way to stop midway through, but I didn't find it. Thankfully I didn't have my memory card in when I did the transfer so it only downloaded 256 GB worth of games, which was a lot but not nearly everything. It is fine to not have every Switch game on the Switch 2. Time to curate a bit.

Hmm... obviously I haven't done my migration to my (unopened) switch 2 but I know when you move a profile over to another switch, it asks you if you will still be using your old switch and if you select yes, it doesn't move everything over. I have no idea (if you're keeping your old switch and you have cloud saves) why you'd want to by default move everything over besides things like Animal Crossing which are a pain since they can only be on one system at a time.

I luckily don't have a ton of Switch digital games. The majority of my collection is physical. I still have 160 GB free on the Switch hard drive and that's after downloading Mario Kart World, and the Switch 2 versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

I completely forgot about needing to get a card for expanded storage. I lucked out with not needing it right now.

I’m actually really enjoying the Welcome Tour. It gives a lot of insights into the technology if you’re into that sort of thing. I would love for them to present in this way for all past consoles.

If your BotW and TotK Switch 1 games are physical, then the download for the upgrade is very small. It's like a texture pack, I think. Not the full game again.

BOTW is about 10GB. TOTK was 4.0 GB

If you're seeing the battery indicator get low way too early it might be that it has more charge than you think, I guess?

I gotta say, I played with the Pro controller and the GameCube controller and GC games play much better with GC controller. Hell, Wind Waker even has the controls on screen that mirror the GC controller. I sure hope they get more games soon. I would love to play Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. I mean I can with GC console, but would rather a possibly enhanced port. That game has resonated with me to this day and has got to be in my top 5.

Man I am in awe of the Virtual Game Cards. What a cool way to manage your software. Just going through everything I own and just loading anything I had any interest in playing. I put in an ONN (sorry, but that logo looks like a fake news network logo you might see in a superhero movie when a character watches the devastation after an alien attack on their TV) 512 GB memory card and it seems to be working just fine. Can't imagine ever filling it up. And now swapping games in and out is super easy. Wish I could clean up the free shovelware on my HOME screen though. There are so many Switchmas games I got for free but will never ever touch.

Also put on a screen protector. Got this one a couple of months ago from Amazon. I highly recommend it. Dead easy to install perfectly thanks to the guide tray, and I can barely even tell it's there now.

I've only casually followed the launch of the Switch 2. I'm not in the market for a new console right now

I've seen TikTok and social media videos that these consoles appear to be really easy to get. I saw a video in Costco and they had like a huge display with many available. Is that your experiences? I mean great for those who can't afford them now and are maybe waiting until the Holidays.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I think it was a totally difffernt console launch than any before. They’ve been making them and storing them away for months. That way they had millions available at launch instead of a few hundred thousand. It helps that it isn’t really cutting-edge hardware in the system. But in either case, this has to be considered a massive hit at launch. So different from the manufactured scarcity we saw in the Wii era.

but you still have to swap out key cards in order to play the games you want if they are physical. i also put on a screen protector and it's like butter.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Ha..I just put my screen protector on today too. From the same company but I don't think it was the one that was loaded on the tray? But it did include a separate tray? Either way super simple to put on. And it was $4 shipped for 3 screens. How do they make money on that?

I haven't been shopping very much to see but when I went to Walmart two days after launch there weren't any on the shelf. Not sure about any other place yet.

I haven't returned my two extra that I have I guess I should go ahead and do that. I was hanging on to them for a little bit to just make sure that no one I knew wanted one.

I stumbled across this video on YouTube about the process to get a Switch 2 in Japan. It's long but mildly interesting. She's cute too so there's that.

I finally figured out what was going wrong with my MK8 DLC. I saw where it had the option to eject from your system. I said, what the heck, I will try it. So, after I did that, there was an option to redownload, I did and it worked like a charm.
