Reviews rolling in now. Not as rapturous as I was expecting, but still overwhelmingly positive. Currently 86 on Metacritic

IGN gave it an 8, saying it's very fun but has clunky companion AI and some camera and frame rate issues

I think this is going to be my next play. After all the Yakuza games, I think I need a break from the genre and will wait to pick up Rebirth sometime later. This seems like a good change of pace.

^ the answer is no. to all those wondering so eagerly as I was, no, is the answer. you don't have to have played the first to enjoy the second.

And Google. I literally Googled (before he asked) do you have to play dd 1 before 2.

May pass on this game after hearing about how they kept the microtransaction bullshit under wraps until now.

Do you care about things like changing how your character looks? I don't see how cosmetic micros would make you pass on an otherwise excellent game. Plus, the majority of them are available in game as well.

One particular bugbear at the moment is the poorly-named "Art of Metamorphosis - Character Editor"—namely, there's a perception from players that the game's one-save-only policy is to help drive up the sales of this thing. While you can have your own opinions about save files, the Art of Metamorphosis book itself costs about 500 rift crystals, or RC.

I edited my comment but from what I understand the items for fast travel are mtx as well. This stuff will only continue to get worse if we keep supporting it.

I think it's all the item microtransactions which yes may be available in game but how much do you have to farm? It's just a bad look overall, I think, hopefully it's minor for those actually playing though.

I don't plan on supporting it. I'm sure that's another item that's available in game as well. This isn't a multiplayer game where micros give players advantages. Play the game as if the transaction store doesn't exist. That's what I'll be doing.

Edit: Just looked up the fast travel item (which is one of two ways to fast travel). They are in game as both loot to find and an item to purchase with in-game currency.

I'd give Capcom a pass if it's just Fast Travel and cosmetics . But charging to make new character is bullshit!

Both new saves and changing character appearance issues are being addressed in an upcoming patch.

So are they trying to claim that that new game thing was a bug?

Re: Dragon's Dogma II (PC, PS5, XSX/S) - 3/22/24

Started this up on Friday and the janky movement started to make me motion sick while trying to find ingredients for an early game quest. I saw and changed some settings (and it looks like motion blur on/off is coming) but I'll have to try again to see if any of those changes help. I hope they do since I bought it on PS and I can't refund like I can on Steam when this happens (looking at you, Starfield.)

Was really looking forward to this game, but just like with most games, I think I'll wait for a price drop, mostly since by then there will be enough patches that'll bring it up to speed.

I bought it on a whim and I’ll be honest I’m having a lot of fun with it.

Re: Dragon's Dogma II (PC, PS5, XSX/S) - 3/22/24

I put maybe 5-6 hours into this over the weekend. It definitely has the silly charm of a TES game. There's a ton of on foot traveling so far. I've found 2 of the fast travel points but only 3 of the stone I need to use them.

I wish the game was a little more generous on how much you can hold before becoming encumbered. Constantly have to leave materials behind because getting back to town where you can transfer to storage is not quick and often not easy. Just the kit you always need to hold to use camp sites will take your character or a pawn from normal weight load to heavy.

I never leave anything behind. Between myself and three pawns it’s plenty of space.

Not for me, at least early on. I think I'm level 17 now. If I pick up all items dropped by killed mobs and gathered mats, my weight limit starts to be an issue. Maybe I'm spending too much time in caves and gathering ore.

I’m a thief and often very heavy. It doesn’t really affect me other than running like a two pack a day smoker.

Re: Dragon's Dogma II (PC, PS5, XSX/S) - 3/22/24

My OCD kicks in when it turns yellow at Heavy. I'm an archer with my main pawn a healer. I'd imagine my weight limit is similar to yours.

Few more hours put in. I have a house! Still working on those tasks from the guy in the bar.

Does this game have an invading system like Dark Souls? A random knight ran up and started attacking me in town. My thief pawn took him to the ground and stabbed him to death. At first, I thought it was an NPC guard because I had recently escaped jail, but no other NPCs attacked me, even after killing that guy in the street. When I tried to loot the body, it gave me the option to revive them with one of those stones which I thought was strange.

I don’t think it does.

That seems to be the case. There is no player interaction other than pawns. Now I want to know what the hell was up with that NPC guard. Dude wanted my life and not a single person in the city cared when one of my pawns brutally killed them.

Did you have your weapon drawn? They don't like that when you're inside any of the towns. I've put it away before it turned violent, but I've had several npcs confront me if I had forgot.
