Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

The cutscene lengths in this game are definitely on par with the majority of other modern, story driven RPG's. I don't get what the complaining is about...

Neither of those, but the way the game it setup in spots (story sequence, linear gameplay for a minute, story, battle) makes them seem longer than they are.

I don't think I ever played those. 5-10 minute length scenes. I was able to take a piss break and the cut scenes were still going.

Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

5-10 minutes cut scenes are standard for pretty much every story driven game whether it is RPG's or open world/action games like God of War, Horizon, The Last of Us. That's how they tell the majority of the story. Obviously if you're not enjoying the story then it's going to feel longer but this game isn't doing anything different than what any other modern story driven game is doing.

Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

The worst offender for me is still MGS V. The opening sequence is over an hour long with minimal gameplay and not a single cinematic is skippable. Most of it here is skippable if you get impatient.

Alas this started good and keeps getting better, I'm now 20ish hours in. I do agree the locales could have used a little more variety and the world just feels small.

There's a late game side quest where Gav wants you to locate a silver chocobo feather since they are good luck so you have to go check with 3 different people in another town who have heard rumors of a silver chocobo and then you have to go locate its nest and find a feather. All fine except for the fact that you ride a silver chocobo and could have just plucked a feather from it and handed it to him.

I thought the same thing.

The only thing I could think of is that I guess it's possible to get through the game and to that side quest without ever actually getting Ambrosia?

Yeah you can definitely miss getting Ambrosia but it's an early side quest that they put right in front of you so you would have to actively avoid it. All they had to do was have it be any other color and it would have made more sense.

Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

The Titan Lost music seemed out of place for an FF game for some reason

Spoiler:

Fun fight but man was it a long one.

Just finished the game along with all side quests and hunts. Ended up being right at 50 hours.

I just finished as well. All side quests, hunts, thousand tomes entries, best sword in the game crafted, all the music found, all missives, and level 48. It clocked at 62 hours and change for me.

What a ride. Definitely top 3 in the FF series for me. Best soundtrack of the series. But no interest in new game plus. Time to let someone else enjoy it.

Technically not if you're not in NG+

If you enjoy the soundtrack, check out some of the decade worth of music from FF14. Same composer.

Thats true. I should have said first play through. Lol. But for me it’s the best.

Finally finished this after a few weeks away, thoroughly great game that weirdly felt like a send off for the franchise despite there being no way Square Enix is letting it go

It felt like a culmination and homage to the franchise and the after credits sequence felt like a send off. Just an imo that I don't expect many would agree with.

I get what you mean. That final scene does feel like a real finale to a series. Like this one game was a 2-3 game series itself.

Would someone unfamiliar with series get into this one? It seems more action, single player and certainly looks incredible.

^ ^ ^
I probably start with Final Fantasy VII Remake to get the feel of the gameplay. Great characters and good storyline with some tought boss battle and it only just the first part, second part should come out sometime this year or the next.

16 is only one part of an entire game? I just thought it looked more action oriented, that I’m used to, and not real RPG.

FF16 is a full game that needs no real background.

FF7 Remake is Part I of what I assume is a trilogy.

Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

Ok, I downloaded the 7 remake. So, newbie question…why isn’t FF8 the sequel? So 16 has no ties to anything so I could just jump right in? 7 did look like the same combat, which I like, but I’m just looking for a fun, new game and 16 looks like it will wet my whistle, but I don’t want to miss out on at least some story background if I don’t play 7 first.

All the main FF games are unique stories with original characters. Just the themes and archetypes carry from one game to the next. A few games like FFVII and FFX have true sequel games.
