NBA 2k23
Iconic basketball player and legendary athlete Michael Jordan will be featured on the cover of NBA 2K23's Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Edition, 2K Sports has announced. The game's release date, September 9, was also confirmed in the announcements today.
Jordan is a 14-time NBA all-star, a five-time MVP, and six-time champion. He was inducted to the NBA Hall of Fame in 2009. This is the fourth time Jordan is on the cover of an NBA 2K game, following NBA 2K11, NBA 2K12, and NBA 2K16 Special Edition. 2K Sports also revealed that NBA 2K23 will feature a "completely rebuilt" version of NBA 2K11's Jordan Challenges that had players trying to virtually recreate Jordan's real-life feats. One of these was a challenge to score at least 38 points and grab 7+ rebounds like Jordan himself did in June 1997 during his memorable "flu game" when a sick Jordan still put up big numbers and drained the winning basket in the NBA Finals. In NBA 2K23, there will be 15 Jordan Challenges. All 10 from NBA 2K11 are being "completely rebuilt" for NBA 2K23, alongside five new ones. "The Jordan Challenge also elevates an array of spellbinding performances across Jordan's college, NBA, and Team USA Basketball careers that players can experience across all 15 Challenges and includes unique video vignettes that come with special commentary from an array of NBA luminaries: Jordan's teammates, opponents, and other sports personalities, who saw him do it live and can bring to life his legacy to a younger generation of NBA fans," 2K said More details on the new Jordan Challenges will be revealed in the time ahead. You can see the box art for NBA 2K23's Michael Jordan and Championship Editions below. Additionally, 2K confirmed that the Championship Edition will include a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass, which normally starts at $15/month. Pricing for the Championship Edition has not been announced yet, but preorders open July 7, so we'll learn more soon. Spoiler:
NBA 2K23 will have multiple cover stars, the company confirmed, and they will be revealed in the next two days when preorders for go live on July 7, so you can expect additional reveals to come in the future. Additionally, 2K and developer Visual Concepts are gearing up to reveal the first gameplay footage and more for the upcoming professional basketball game. NBA 2K23 launches on September 9. Platforms are expected to include PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC, as well as mobile. No surprise with 2K going with MJ for NBA 2K23. Edit for Moderator: For some reason, the title reverts back to lowercase letters. Is there any way you can fix it? Thanks. |

I'm just curious how they're going to price that premium edition that comes with League Pass.

Re: NBA 2k23
Pretty cool to have two of the all time WNBA greats on the cover as well. Also, there's rumors going around that the premium edition that comes with the NBA League Pass will run $150 bucks. |
Re: NBA 2k23
I know the biggest complaint on the last 2 incarnations of this series has been the really difficult shooting mechanics. I know a few of you have complained that it's way too hard to make shots.
Hopefully they address that with this version. Last time I played 2K22, I think my team shot under 40%. Another difficulty of mine is free throws. I miss so many. |
Re: NBA 2k23
My first and probably only 2k NBA game was 21. I thought it was borderline unplayable for me until I found out you could change to the shot button. After that it was still miserable to play due to the snails pace at which you earn VC.
I also couldn’t figure out until halfway through my career why I couldn’t dunk. Then I discovered you had to buy the dunk animations. Fuck 2K. Sorry. It’s still a fresh wound. Hopefully this is a good upgrade/update for those wanting to purchase. |

Usually it’s $100.
The "trick" to enjoying myplayer is to not actually play myplayer but do myteam and create your own player there. You don't get the cheesy story and the rpg-like mechanics, which is a shame, but man I only expect the VC stuff to get worse and worse over time. |
Re: NBA 2k23
Devin Booker is the other cover athlete. I assume he will be for the regular edition

Re: NBA 2k23
So the Jordan edition is $150 and you get NBA League Pass. That alone probably makes it worth it.
But honestly I’m not too keen about spending that much for a video game that will be dated by next summer. |
Re: NBA 2k23
I wonder if League Pass will be a code that you can flip.

Re: NBA 2k23
I think it’s worth it due to the league pass being $200 by itself. |
Re: NBA 2k23
You’ll just have to use a VPN to stream your home team if you live in that market and don’t already have cable that has your local NBA RSN.
I bought a Black Friday subscription to NBA League Pass last year for $99. So a new game and the subscription do make it worth it. |
Re: NBA 2k23
I went to Gamestop yesterday and put in a pre-order for the Championship edition. It's $149 and has the 1 year subscription to NBA League Pass. That alone makes it worth it.
Gamestop also has a $199 edition that has League Pass and something else. Not sure as I didn't have time to look it over thoroughly. But, I passed on that. Since the game is $149, they required a 10% deposit, so I put in $15. |

Seriously though, these things better be behind glass or they have to have some other way to activate the code post purchase or I'd imagine people would steal them. |
Re: NBA 2k23
The cover for Booker looks like it's for a NBA Jam/Street game, not 2K.

Re: NBA 2k23
There are rumors going around that 2K is bringing back the shot meter from 19 and 20. I would buy it if they were true. The shot meter in 22 is hot garbage IMO.
|
Re: NBA 2k23
Who plays with the shot meter on, though? ;)

Re: NBA 2k23
2k22 was so bad I hope this is better.
|
Re: NBA 2k23
It will be my 1st all new sports game on my new PS5. So I am psyched to see the upgraded graphics.
|
Re: NBA 2k23
Does anyone really want this storyline shit?
|
Re: NBA 2k23
Give me the rpg elements without having to be online all the time and without the storyline and I'd be fine. I enjoy the storylines sometimes but man sometimes I just want to dominate college, be drafted, and have a simple story with all the rpg stuff. I'm probably the anomaly though because I also don't see the point of spending a ton of VC on stuff like shoes, and that's obviously a big part of the ecosystem.
I mean someone must enjoy running around a city just to get to practice or whatever. I don't. |

Re: NBA 2k23
I am having more fun in one day than I did an entire year with 2K22. There's so much to do in this game. My era, which I picked Magic vs Bird, is so much fun. Everything is retro, the broadcast, the uniforms, even the stats they show on the screen. Then you have the MJ challenges, which are fun to play as well. Unless some unknown bug pops up, 2K really outdid themselves this time around.

Re: NBA 2k23
Cool. I’m picking up my preorder after work today.
|
Re: NBA 2k23
I went to pick up my copy of 2K23 yesterday (The championship edition) which is $149 for PS5.
Gamestop mistakenly put in my pre-order for the $199 Ultimate Gamestop exclusive edition and the woman brought out a limited edition Michael Jordan photo in a frame and souvenir acrylic ticket. I looked at those and I told them, pass, it's not worth it for the $50 extra premium. So I just got the championship edition. There is a paper inside that says they will email you information on the NBA league pass subscription that is linked to your 2K account. I assume since it's only September, they will send it later. It took roughly 2+ hours to install. Haven't had a chance to fully play it yet, but I noticed that the shooting aspect, which was problematic for many of you is improved. The shot meter is much easier to use and navigate. |
Re: NBA 2k23
I forgot about that league pass version. Was that preorder only?
Wait, if it's linked to your 2k account can you not watch it on your phone? |

Wait, if it's linked to your 2k account can you not watch it on your phone? They need the email from the 2K account to send you the redemption information. It says in the packaging that you have to redeem the 2K23 bonus content code from the insert by December 18th. It includes a digital copy of 2K23 for the PS4. And to make sure your email is correct. Then they will send you instructions on how to redeem it on your NBA.com account. |
Re: NBA 2k23
Hmmm... the championship edition is no longer on the PSN store and is basically sold out at gamestop and elsewhere. Oh well, post all star break discount for this again.

 You should have gave in when I posted about it back earlier in the summer. Normally I wouldn't spend $149 for 1 game, but the League pass enticed me to do it. |
Re: NBA 2k23
By the way, the insert says the League pass code will be emailed on or around September 27th.

Re: NBA 2k23
Well, now the price of the Championship Edition makes sense. NBA dropped the price for the league pass this season to $100 instead of their regular $200
|
Re: NBA 2k23
I saw some screenshots with like ridiculous vc costs for upgrading your stats to the top. What in the world happened?
|
Re: NBA 2k23
Don’t know where else to out this, but 2K recommends to change your passwords
