I’m definitely canceling my pre-order. Eight hour game, not a ton of stuff to interact with, repetitive combat…
Not worth the $$. I’ll check it out when it’s $30.

I have no issue with the reviews - metacritic, which is usually brutal for everything actually shows high praise across many reviews for the game.

Pretty sure its already been said but, this is a split version game - series x and one x versions ate separate. With that said, I just now finally bought a series x (refurb) and I payed a bit too much but I don't care...finally got one.

Couldn't care less about reviews other than from the few reviewers (actual humans, not the websites they write for) whose tastes align with my own.
I won't be buying this until early next year, though.
And it sounds like the PC version should be outright avoided. A shame. Skip to 22:38.
TL;DW version is... shader compilation stutter strikes again.

It’s not just the reviews but 8 hours? I definitely want to play it but I have so much to play I can wait for a sale and/or a price drop.

I think I saw IGN review that said at least 14 hours is campaign. Probably misremembering though.

Yeah, first review I watched said 14. I'm fine with either. I never finish games because they are too long these days, I welcome the shorter experiences.

Played 40 minutes of it so far, it's not bad so far, definite Dead Space vibes, Josh Duhamel has a weird posture walking around. Didnt know Sam Witwer is in this as well. Definite performance issues on PC, the stuttering seems to happen mostly at beginning before gameplay begins, then it smooths out for the most part. I'm sure they will get worked out. Hopefully they remove the Denuvo bs

I figure now I’ll just wait a month until the DS remake. I’d rather play the real deal rather than scraps of a once lively franchise.

I wasn't going to get it anyways; too much now...but from what I saw regarding the Player and some Critic Reviews was the performance and stuttering issues for reason on low scores...but honestly, how many games have we seen this happen when released only to have issues, glitches, bugs and get 2-3 points knocked off due to that.

IGN stated it takes about 8 hours to beat it and no real reason to go back and play it again. Stated that there were no extra areas to explore or anything much else to do after beating the story. Might be worth a look at half price and a patch or two, in my opinion.

When I was at GameStop canceling my pre order, there was another guy doing the same. And the dude behind the counter said he also canceled his.

Wow, WTF is all the complaining about with this game? it's outstanding. My first Series X only game (I know it's available for both consoles but I bought the series X only copy). While the similarities with dead space are there, this game still stands on its own. They definitely wanted this to be a linear, straight forward experience as well. There isn't even a map.
I love the combat system, it actually feels like you're in unscripted battles and you have a lot of options when attacking - it keeps the combat fresh even though the enemies get repetitive.
Who said this game was only 8 hours? it's much longer than that - especially if you want to go off the beaten path for stuff. They keep the survival horror experience in check as well - you can heal yourself during battle, but it takes some time to inject so you honestly need to run away a good distance first. I don't have too many gripes with this game yet either - I'm about 4 1/2 hours or so in as well.
I do wonder why they hired famous people though. Were Josh Duhamel and that hot chick (she's f'n beautiful) from the boys really necessary? Must have cost them some bank - would have liked to have seen that go into the gameplay elements.
Game looks f'n amazing as well - really impressed. I also love how fast it loads from scratch as well. We are definitely in the next gen of gaming.
I mentioned in the resident evil thread as well, I love photo mode on the series x way more than the one x - see my images from the game below - I love using the "The Callisto protocol" tag as well.
Again, not sure what all the complaining about is and I'm talking about people bashing it without having even played it. Yeah, it's pretty linear and there isn't too much variety but it's a great game to play and very tense. The devs were definitely going for a more action vibe but there still some creepy parts.
I guess I am let down by the gore - they hyped it up big time and while it looks great....it's not over the top or anything outrageous - but it's still really good.

Yeah im a couple hours in and really liking this game (though only a few complaints so far). They've also patched up the PC performance issues I was initially seeing.

Sounds good you guys like. I can wait for cheaper (since I have quite the backlog), but really looking forward to it. It does look incredible and linear is fine by me.

Damn, you guys are making it enticing. I can get digital for $30 with gc so it’s very very tempting.

I finished it on PS5. Took about 9.5 hours. As mentioned its pretty linear....the branching paths only go an extra room or two before you either turn around or just end up back on the main path via crawlspace or something.
I really enjoyed it though. I am a big scifi horror fan and the story was cool, visuals were great, melee combat was a new twist and the PS5 controller made hits feel heavy.
Only bit that annoyed me was one autosave point where a monster is running at you. Unfortunately I had very low health and ammo. So each time I die, I come back with a monster running full tilt at me and no time to heal (since it takes about 10 seconds to heal yourself).

So why, exactly, does the DualSense make the game better? I can’t decide anymore which system I should get new games on…
