Panic Playdate

Has anyone purchased a Playdate yet? I'm very interested, but they're sold out and only taking preorders for 2023 with a full deposit of the purchase price $179. I think it looks really cool and gives off classic Game Boy vibes. It also comes with 24 games. https://play.date/

Re: Panic Playdate

I received mine last week. I was a day 1 pre-order. It's a fun little device with only 2 games for now. The surfing game is a fun time waster. I haven't put too much time into the 2nd which is some mix of Pokemon and bird watching, it seems. I'm not sure exactly when I should expect the next 2 games.

I’ve followed it through coverage on a podcast I listen to. Kinda cool, but I don’t think I’ll get one.

It's definitely not for everyone and certainly not for people who need to see direct value for their money against other products.

Edit: Holy shit these things are going for a lot on eBay. I saw a SOLD listing for just the cover you can buy separately (which I have) for $100.

I think it looks kinda fun. It’s just that while I enjoy gaming from time to time I don’t do it often enough anymore to justify buying another handheld. My Switch is my main source of gaming now other than occasionally I’ll start up my Xbox One.

Yeah, that's what I assume most people will decide when they see this. You can do more/better gaming on your phone and definitely more on a Switch. It's a lot to spend on a gimmick item but I wanted to support them. It's a great device if you'll be going a ton of hours without access to a power source for other handheld devices.
