Funny. The Verge and Ars both have pretty scathing reviews. Basically both had the same issues with it: the launcher

Then I tried another DVD I had out, Jackie Chan's First Strike, and it played fine, so I wonder if it's something about converting from the NTSC framerate vs the film framerate?

I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the disc player app and giving the system a hard restart but no change.

Anybody else run into this?
Could it be DVD rot?

I just experienced something similar last week. I couldn't get the brand new 12 Monkeys UHD to play on my Xbox One X. First disc that I can recall doing that.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Can someone please tell me if this is an SSD drive that I can play X/S optimized games on if I move from another SSD or internal storage? Thanks in advance.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

You mean besides me already telling you that you can't?
You could keep games on it externally and transfer the data to an internal card when you need it, but there's no need for an expensive SSD for that.

How hard is it to do this to check?

Because it's a card that gets plugged directly into the back of the console maybe?

it's not a card. it's a standard looking storage drive. white and big.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Did you read what I've now typed three times? It's not the brand that is important, it's internal vs external.
There is no external drive that works to play current-gen games off of for either XSX or PS5.

so, why is the seagate formatted as internal and can play X/S optimized? i'm sorry if i'm confused and don't mean to be a pain, but i don't see the difference between the Seagate SSD that plays optimized games and the Lexar SSD that will not.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

i really am sorry Deck and do appreciate this help. i just am trying to understand why one works and not the other if they are both SSD and external from the X/S itself.

That’s all from the Seagate external SSD. Fully playable.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Do you have a memory expansion card plugged into the back of your XSX? Because those are made by Seagate. Did you just rename it Seagate SSD?
This is what I see when I check storage device on my XSX

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

You can buy a 2 TB Seagate SSD card and toss out the 1 TB one. It costs $279.99. I would just transfer data to and from an external HDD instead though.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

You'd have to transfer everything from the card to an external HD (either SSD or HD), then swap the external card with a 2TB one, then transfer it back. Not really worth it. Just move some content to and from an external 4GB HDD as needed.

And yeah, that was pretty frustrating there. Thanks for acknowledging.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

i bought the 4TB SSD and will transfer the 1TB SSD to the 5TB drive, then 5TB to 4TB SSD and then return the 5TB drive. thanks Deck for all the advice and staying with me through the frustration and headache caused by all this. You truly have a patient demeanor, and I am sure your bedside manner is as equally as great.

I'm still wondering if he actually renamed it to Seagate SSD.
