Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

I remember just loving Fable 1 & 2 but being pretty disappointed in 3. Did they change developers or something?

^ between 2 and 3? Not really. It was still Lionhead Studios with Molyneux at the helm.
But now Lionhead is gone, and Playground Games (makers of all the beloved Forza Horizon games) are rebooting it... allegedly.

Interesting! Have they made any non-racing games before?

No. Fable is coming from a second studio that Playground formed in 2017. At least some of the staff has RPG experience, with titles like Cyberpunk 2077 under their belts.

Yeah, I knew it was a second studio within Playground, but didn’t know the new team had experience with RPGs. Makes sense though! Not like they’d delay FH6 development for Fable

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

10 new secret achievements for Hi-Fi Rush have appeared on steamdb, suggesting that some new challenge modes and/or story DLC will arrive ‘soon.’
I’m guessing it’ll be shadow dropped just like the game — still one of the highest rated games of the year — did back in January.

also, this, from one of the game designers:

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Good strategy, maybe.

(the joke is, of course, they’ll only be showing two first party games, right? )

^ I'm sorry I don't understand anything about that above Tweet. Is that a joke or announcement and what is it referring to?

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Greenberg is simply saying that all the first party games on display next Sunday will have actual gameplay or in-engine footage. There’s no joke there, except my snarky comment that they’ll only show two first party games (ie: Starfield and Forza), making that comment true by default.

Also, on his second point, he’s saying there will be a label indicating the source of the footage (I presume before, during, or after each segment). I just hope they go the extra step to label PC vs Console footage.

At least there won’t be any focus on TV or movies this time around, either.

Should be an interesting showcase..

But they're still running on PC hardware, right? Wasn't that the big issue recently, that the console performance wasn't going to match the PC demo?

I mentioned above that they should make that clear either way, but as we haven’t yet seen any of these new teasers/trailers/demos, we obviously don’t know what they’re running on. Sometimes they run on retail hardware, or even dev kit hardware… but all companies have been guilty of being obtuse about those details.
Regardless, in-game footage, particularly gameplay footage, is generally the closest we ever get to seeing what the real vision for a game is. Pre-rendered CG clips are good for vibes, though.

I wouldn’t say recently as much as always
Hell, even PC performance of final games has often been far from matching the performance shown in ‘vertical slice’ PC demos. I’d still rather see that than the alternative. Or worse, just moody music and a game title logo.

Out of all the X-box exclusives, the only one that I have any interest in is Starfield.

^ You don't like Forza games? I prefer Horizon, but the Forza games are fun too (and far more accessible than Gran Turismo). Besides, they're "free" with GPU, so they're at least worth checking out.

I'll still check Starfield out....but the fact it's Single Player Only is a minus for me. A huge Space Game that's SP would be like seeing Elder Scrolls Online be SP. For some that's fine but right now, No Man's Sky offers a lot on what you can do and it has coop/MP. I hope Strafield does great but how long has it been since first presentation and how many delays?

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

It's not like they advertised Starfield as a MP game, but...
like seeing Elder Scrolls Online be SP
Or, y'know... Skyrim?

They're doing a full 30 minute Starfield Direct presentation on Sunday afternoon, five days from now; an entire half hour dedicated to this one game.

Which makes me wonder what else we will see in the main presentation.

And I have zero issues with a space based massive SP game
Worked well for Mass Effect.

So Western Digital now has expansion cards available (only 500GB and 1TB) and the same price as Seagate's.

Update to flight simulator looks awesome. Just wish it didn't take up so much hard drive space

Starfield still looks underwhelming. Hoping the Direct impresses.
