That's pretty ridiculous that you need to buy a new TV. So basically next gen will cost $800.

I'm hoping MS will have series X games on Xcloud so I can just stream new games to my xbox one.

So you will see little to zero benefit in upgrading.

Xbox Live Gold is $9.99/mo or $24.99 quarterly

You don't "need" to do anything. Play them on an old CRT TV if that is what moves you. Starting with this current gen if you want to get the most of the system you would want a current tv (4K) and that goes doubly so for the next gen systems.

I bought a 3D tv like 5 years ago before I bought my OLED. I think I watched maybe two 3D movies. It痴 just a gimmick and that痴 why it died out.

I just bought a new projector that is very proud of its 3d features haha.

Oh so they're keeping the same pricing structure (hopefully) - that's not too bad then.

Microsoft has stopped selling 12 month subscription for Live Gold on their website and on the console. That's it. You can still buy a 12 month subscription for Gold for $59.99 at most retailers, at least for now.

right now, yes. if i upgrade i lose my 3D capabilities and almost 200 3D Blus are useless. i am loving the 3D movies i have gotten and don't want to give that up. so yes, it would be a big detriment to upgrade for me...

You do know you don't have to destroy your old TV when you get a new one, right?

re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

I also don;t really think I need a 4K TV yet. I have long since stopped watching anything in 3D. Nobody but me ever was okay with wearing those glasses.
That said, my TV is still really nice and works well and I don't feel a compelling need to totally upgrade everything to get 4K (I would need to get a new receiver as well, wouldn't I?).

As long as I am happy with my current set-up and Xbox isn't putting out any Next-Gen exclusives for at least a couple of years, I am totally fine waiting on their Next Gen system.

The Xbox Games Showcase was pretty disappointing. Not terrible or anything, but there wasn't anything that sparked the excitement that a good number of the titles that premiered at Sony's event did. The biggest surprise was just that there won't be a Forza title at launch. Even getting a first look at Halo: Infinite's campaign wasn't nearly as exciting as I thought it'd be.

I missed most of it but did hear that Destiny 2 and all of its DLC and expansions is coming to game pass in September. The new dlc releasing in November will be included as well. I am pretty excited by that news. I was late to the game, starting just a month ago. I will be ready for the DLC about that time and now I won稚 have to purchase them. The player base should see a significant boost too.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 seems cool. Never played the other games in the series though. I wish they were available, but I think they're all PC only.

So we get Nov launch of the system and delay of Halo Infinite: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/08/...ands-of-games/

 Welp there it is. It looked so blah, but I thought MS would not want to launch without Halo.

Well now we know why all XO controllers will work with XSX games.

Spoiler:
BTW The irony of using a Spider-Man meme, in reference to a game system where Spider-Man isn't appearing thanks to multiple exclusivity deals, is not lost on me.

Yup. Because of the whole "Xbox is the platform, not a console" approach, it's probably better to wait and have a better game for tens of millions of players than to just slop something out for a small audience that'll settle for anything. Maybe there's some small hope that Microsoft will have some amazing surprise to bowl us over with before the year's out.

Or maybe it's the curse of the X! The Xbox One X didn't have any software of note launch at the same time either. I think Super Lucky's Tale was the closest thing.

re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

I don't really get their strategy. Now I don't have a 4K TV so clearly I am not the target audience, but with no new games exclusive to the console and very similar controller to the current generation , I feel zero desire to get this console any time soon.
The PS5 on the other hand with the new Miles Morales game and cool controller feels much more must-have at launch.

re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Yeah, no Halo, no exclusive games, recycling the One controller, and the very bland design, it's a head scratching strategy for sure.

Maybe Nov 6th release date...

@tomwarren: Xbox Series X may launch on November 6th. A tipster tells me boxes of the new controllers have a do not open date of November 6th on them. These controllers leaked earlier this week https://t.co/oyhlbg2SKo https://t.co/dq096shN7L
