Right. I thought it was a little wobbly horizontally but it didn't really bother me, and by the time I realized the stand worked both ways, well, it was too late.

Called Sony, nice enough but no luck (they only package them w/consoles, so far at least), but what do you know there was one for sale on ebay, just the stand, $10.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

On a personal front, I again called Sony during my lunch hour. Got nowhere. Told them that if I had purchased my PS5 through a retailer I would have returned it already but since I bought it from Sony Direct, I had no option but to call and talk to CS. I was told that "it's a known issue and they're 'investigating' the problem" I just have to keep waiting. I told them I don't like having a $500 machine that I can only play PS4 games and AC Valhalla on. I was told that yes, that must be frustrating but that's all they can do for now and give them some more time.

Ugh SO ridiculous... Any specifics at all, like what precisely the known issue is or a ballpark on how long it will take to patch??

None, and I asked both those questions specifically.

"Still investigating" and "Don't want to give you an unrealistic estimate" were my super-unsatisfying answers.

What about an outright return? I know that doesn't seem wise given how hard they are to get, but if it's jacked, it's jacked.

I bought it directly from Sony so I don't think I even could. Plus the cost to ship it back would be prohibitive.

Have you contacted your credit card company to see what your options are? Some (many? most? all?) would consider “electronic device that the retailer admits is defective but won’t exchange/replace” to fall under their purchase protection programs.

Didn't think about shipping, but it's still a store. They sold a defective product. They should accept returns.

Good thinking Tyner. Decker's done his due diligence at this point. They sold him a defective product and won't replace it. They're no better than an ebay seller at this point. Dispute that charge and it may force their hand into a replacement.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I'd just be careful about going to "charge back" route, if only because I remember Sony being aggressively shitty about that in the past and banning PSN accounts tied to anyone who did that for legitimate reasons (hacked accounts, etc.).
i don't think they'd necessarily do that in this case, as it's very different, but it's still incredibly shitty.
I'm genuinely kind of shocked at how it's playing out for Decker, and I haven't really seen rumblings of this issue on other forums at all.

Edit: and I just saw a thread from today on another forum where someone was banned from PSN because their parents did a charge back on a transaction they didn't recognize. yeah, don't use your parents credit card, Decker!

That very much went through my mind before posting, but I figured this is far enough removed from PSN as to not be an issue. I feel like they'd have to go a little out of their way to be that vindictive.

I hadn't seen similar reports when Decker first mentioned it, but after searching ResetERA for that error code, a bunch of people had the exact same experience. Effectively unplayable system, Sony saying that a fix was on the way, and that there's nothing they could do. Some did say that they were able to navigate an exchange after talking to the right person, but...yeah.

cbsnews.com posted an article about it. Hardly a peep from dedicated gaming outlets, though.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I am not at the point of trying a charge back or anything like that, but yeah it's frustrating. And I wish the one next gen game it actually played well was something other than Valhalla which I low-key kinda hate.

Thanks for posting that CBS News article. Wish IGN and Kotaku would run stories on this issue. Nice to know I'm not alone...

Does the PS5 carry the standard one year warranty or is it only 90 days?

where are you charging from? my front USB port did a shit job of charging. I have since got the charging station, but you could try the back USB port, or use a wall port.

Charging from the front USB was a known issue and supposedly fix with a previous update.

You could look up what people who were able to get a new one from Sony said and then lie and say yours is having the same problem. If they ship a replacement so quickly, they likely wouldn't bother checking yours out before sending you a new one.
Of course lying may make baby santa claus cry.

Charging in in the back of the controller with a USB cable to my home computer.

I did see that. But I don't really want to lie about it. And the fact remains that I shouldn't have to. My system doesn't work, it should be fixed.
This issue should be covered by the gaming media. Weird that it is not yet.

It doesn't work and they should replace it, simple as that. You shouldn't have to plead to have a 500 dollar working console. It doesn't matter why it doesn't work, it simply doesn't. Tell them that and that you expect a replacement. You could also do a charge back on your credit card. At this point they are playing hardball for no reason and with no real support to do so.

Yes, they should. You would think that buying directly from the manufacturer would give you more protection, not less. You know they have systems, just sold a bunch yesterday, so it's hard to imagine why they won't do an exchange. Makes zero sense to expect you to wait indefinitely, sorry.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I’ve been keeping up with this thread since I eventually plan on getting a PS5, and I suppose there’s a remote chance my wife lucked into one for Christmas. But at this point I halfway hope she didn’t luck into one for a Christmas present. Seems like y’all have been dealing with a clusterfuck.

Yeah, I've already mostly given up. Bought Cyberpunk on Steam this morning. That was the main one I wanted to play on the PS5 right away.
