That looks like something designed by the Thermians.

re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I really like and just impressed with him altogether....one reason why I went with PS4 from XBox 360....however with this worldwide virus and with China ground zero, I'm not exactly a full 100% on the I'm-Getting-The-PS5-Day-One Train yet.....there's a lot that's happened especially manufacturing over in China not to mention how the situation with chips and components will pan out. There has been tidbits of somewhat good news coming out with some manufacturing they'll be back to normal at the end of March and parts of April...being China, take that with a grain of salt.

Since the world's economy will be in the crapper (if it's not already), I'm wondering if both Sony and Microsoft will delay the systems until next year.

No one is going to have any money to buy these when these come out.

No one's going to be around to make them or ship them out either.

This just made me realize that Gamestop is screwed. Luckily preorders aren't up yet or I'd recommend getting your money back while the store is still open in your area because I have a hard time believing they're going to make it out of this and last until the new consoles come out, whenever they do. Unless they develop and start selling a vaccine.

That's exactly what I am worried about. If we make it to the other side of this virus, what kind of shape is the world's economy going to be in?

re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

As I'm sure anyone interested has already read, Sony revealed the specs this afternoon.

I don't have any amazing insight to share, but I am rather surprised that the PS5 isn't fully backwards compatible with the PS4. Sony has said that they're targeting BC for the "top 100 titles" at launch.

Edit! Apparently it’s because I was reading message board recaps rather than watching it myself. The limited BC is tied to the souped-up boost mode, which is too fast for some games. There’s a straight-up legacy mode that’s fully compatible.

And Dana Carvey gave the presentation.

This is probably sufficient for most who want the feature anyway... But it's a clear disadvantage from a "game preservation" perspective as old hardware dies or can't go online. I would have hoped that all digital-only titles would have BC support, too.
Edit: just saw your edit.

One other thing is that apparently the PS5 SSD is going to be an absolute monster for speed... which if used right, means it can theoretically outperform the Series X in performance, even if the Series X has higher specs elsewhere. I expect Sony will heavily market this to devs and such, but it might be tough to convince buyers that the difference is that significant.

As of now, some rough going with some pain and needing to adapt.....at least here, figure a good 6-8 weeks. But long term, we';; be fine and make a huge comeback. There's been far worse out there between disasters to disease to Wars and we've always been back. Best thing....turn off that freaking Doom & Gloom Hit_The_Panic_Button News. The more bad news the better their ratings...

As to Sony and MS, yes they and about everyone else in the Tech Industry is and will take a hit but Factories will resume, sales will resume, work will resume, jobs will resume....the Big Question though will be...will we see both Next Gen Consoles this Fall or 1st Quarter of 2021....I bet they don't know even know as of now.

re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

If there's one part I view as a major plus for us...it's with "Off-the-Shelf" NVMe SSD's versus MS going with the proprietary ones.Far more choices....though they will need to be certified....which will be a big cost saver. That part will be huge for a lot of gamers with a serious library...

People aren't going to have money for this because they will have spent it all on TP and bottled water.

But seriously though when this does come out, I think a lot of homes will tighten the belt and be picky whether or not spending $500 on a new console is worth it.

I think that's an indication of how behind they actually are.
They obviously threw this together quickly because MS basically did a full reveal a couple days ago and people were wondering about Sony's silence.

Coronavirus or not, I don't think Sony will have this out in 2020.

Nah. This would've been GDC week if not for the virus, and this technical/dev-oriented conversation is what would've been showcased there. (I do, of course, agree that Sony's messaging is light years behind Microsoft's at this point.)

That and how they apparently don’t even have the cooling solution figured out yet.

For those curious as to just what having 16gb GDDR6 Memory will mean, a good article explaining it and the difference between GDD5, GDD5x and GDDR6 is here.... https://www.gamesradar.com/gddr6-memory-explained/

Considering the PS4 has 8gb GDDR5 with a bandwidth of around 175....the PS5 will have 16gb GDDR6 with an impressive 512, that's a pretty sizable jump......

I'm still not clear on the backwards compatibility - PS4 is confirmed right, but the older ones?

Yet there are people that still claim that it will play games all the way back to the one. I'm not buying it and hope we get clear clarification on this soon.

PS3 will never happen due to the architecture. That's why PSNow exists. It's unfortunate but Sony's still reeling from bungling the PS3 generation.
