Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Hey, can someone help me with this?

Trying to transfer everything on my PS4 over to a hard-drive to use on the PS5...

I formatted it as an external drive, and that lets me copy my games onto it, but as an "extended drive", it won't let me copy game saves. In order to do that, I need to switch it to Fat32, now I can copy game saves, BUT now I can't copy the actual games. Is it really one or the other? Can I not copy both saves and games to the external-drive to later use on the PS5?
I know the saves have to go onto to the console's drive, but I can't seem to copy them to even do that, and if I do, I can't copy games. I just wanted to do it all at once, without having to go back and forth from one console to the other.

Do you have PlayStation Plus? I just put all my saves on the cloud and then downloaded them to my PS5.

Hey I have two more uses of the PS5 beta code. First two people who post here to ask get it (use it only once each please).

Main updates from this System Software Beta Program:

• PS5 Game Base enhancements
o Now when you start a party, you can select either an open party or a closed party.
o Voice chats are now called parties
o For easier access, we’ve divided Game Base into three tabs: [Friends], [Parties], [Messages].

• New PS5 UI features
o Sort your game collection by genre
o Keep the games or apps you choose on your home screen
o Start Share Screen from the Create menu

• Accessibility Features
o More Screen Reader languages
o Mono audio for headphones
o Check marks for enabled settings

• Voice Command Preview (U.S. and U.K. limited release)
o Feature that enables voice commands for finding and opening games, apps and settings, as well as controlling media playback.

Codes sent. Redeem then go to Settings > System Settings >Software Update and you can install the Beta. You can also revert to previous version if you want.

I do have PS+, but for some reason not all my saves upload to the cloud - I just wanted to get all of them (there's a lot) all at once in one place.

I figured it out though - the external is for games only when it's formatted for them, so I had to copy the game-saves onto a separate thumb-drive, which I'll copy later to the PS5 console, and the external drive will stay for games only. Doing all that now, then gonna set up the PS5 tomorrow, which just showed up today (they sent it Fed.Ex overnight, saturday delivery for free, which I know ain't cheap!). :fc:

Okay, last question, I swear!

Will PS4 game-saves work on the PS5 versions of the game?

Like, say I upgrade my version of Guardians of the Galaxy, that I'm a few hours into, to the PS5 version - will my old save work on that PS5 version, or am I stuck with the PS4 version if I want to continue, and if I want to play the PS5 version, I'll have to start over.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

There will be a separate option, in-game to import your PS4 save to the PS5 version of games in those games that have both a PS4 and PS5 version.
It's a slightly annoying single extra step.

Depends on the game. Some of them require using the PS4 version to convert/upload a save that you then have to manually download using the PS5 version, so you have to have both the PS4 and PS5 games installed — each with all the latest updates — to make the transition. (Spider-Man: Remastered, Avengers, Death Stranding, Sackboy, Far Cry 6, and Final Fantasy VII Intergrade are a few examples.)

That’s thankfully becoming less common, like Ghost of Tsushima mentioned above and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but AFAIK, most games still require firing up the PS4 version. Just having a PS4 save on your PS5 isn't enough most of the time.

And at least a handful of games have no path to carry over saves.

As for Guardians of the Galaxy specifically, PowerPyx sez:

Yes, there is save transfer and it autopops all trophies. Save transfer only works from PS4 to PS5 (not from PS5 to PS4). In PS5’s title screen click “Migrate Save Games”. If it doesn’t work the first time, reboot the game and migrate saves again and it should autopop everything on 2nd try.

I was successful during Sony's direct event on Friday. The queue started out telling me I had an hour to wait, then in a couple minutes it updated to 5 minute wait, and then counted down from there. Got a discless version and extra controller, which are supposed to show up tomorrow. I do have an external hard drive connected on my PS4, but still have a bunch of games installed on the system itself. Hopefully it'll be easy moving things around. I'm hoping to then sell the PS4 (Uncharted 4 edition), game, and extra controller for $250-300 or so locally.

Maneater being one of them. I started on PS4 while I was locked away for Covid and got out and had no way to play on the PS5. I could unhook the PS4 from the bedroom and move it but I wasn't loving it anyway, so I said, "fuck it" and moved on to something else.

Weird, I didn't see a PS5 version of a Tsushima to download or buy or anything, just the PS4 one I already have.

You need to pay $30 for the Director's Cut upgrade , which is $20 for the Iki Island expansion and $10 for the upgrade. Kind of mean if you ask me, but that's the deal.

That stinks. I guess I'll get my ps4 disc out of the yard sale pile and finish it. I thought my save would just transfer over to free PS+ version. I'm glad I haven't sold it yet.

Huh, I played the whole thing on PS4 so didn’t know about this. I wouldn’t mind paying $10, but after finishing it then again on new game+, then playing the expansion, maybe I’ve had enough. ;)

I already got that on the PS4, so there's nothing left for me to buy/get/download on the PS5.

I don’t understand what you’re saying here. You have Ghost of Tsushima? If so to get the upgraded PS5 version with the expansion, you’d need to buy the upgrade which costs $30. If you have Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut (PS4) which includes the $20 expansion, you would need to spend an additional $10 for the PS5 version if you wanted the PS5 version.
If you just want to play the PS4 version on your PS5, then you don’t need to do anything.
The Dual Sense integration is kind of nice in the horse riding and sword fighting, but the visuals aren’t much different than the PS4 version TBH. It was already an amazing looking game.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

You might be confusing playing PS4 games on a PS5, which you can do with (almost) every PS4 game, digital or disc (you just download your save off the cloud or your USB stick and go play), with what I was referring to — which is the many recent PS4 games that got upgraded to a new PS5 version with Ray tracing and Dual Sense integration and stuff like that. Most games with PS4 and PS5 versions will give you the PS5 version for free (Far Cry 6, Assassins Creed Valhalla, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Metro Exodus, Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Forbidden West, etc, etc) but some like Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2, The Uncharted Legacy Collection and the aforementioned Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut require a $10 upgrade fee for the PS5 upgrade.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Holy shit my PS5 disc drive is loud when the system boots up. It sounds really bad. Then it gets a little bit quieter once the speed slows down... then silent when I'm actually playing a game, except for the few times it seems to do a spot-check to ensure the disc is still there.
Mine is setup vertical right now, though. I wonder if that's why... but I don't remember it being this loud over the last year... since most of my games are digital :)

It's not. Mine's horizontal and sounds like what you're describing.

I'll check again later (I'm at work now), but it was on the PS store where the only thing I could do with Tsushima was download the soundtrack, which I chose not to do when I bought the director's cut. I am new to the PS store on the PS5, so maybe I don't know how to navigate it correctly.

As for using my PS4 saves with the PS5 versions of the games, seems like it's a slightly different process for each game, but I think I've sussed it out so far. And I've already run out of room on the PS5's console hard-drive, having to move games I won't be playing much for now (like Valhalla) on the external drive I'm using. And while I haven't tried new games yet, I did tool around with PS5 version of some old ones, and honestly, while it's nice, 60FPS is legit disorienting to me, especially in first-person.

The best thing though are the load-times - I think since having the baby, with the limited gaming time I have, I've spent more time waiting for games to load on the PS4 than actually playing them!

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Don't look in the PSN store. On the main menu, when you select Ghost of Tsushima, there should be an option to purchase the PS5 version, probably on the right side.
