On the Playstation Store they say
Buy the digital PS4™ version of Control Ultimate Edition from PlayStation™Store and download the PS5™ version at no extra cost when it launches in late 2020.

It says right on the Xbox Store that the next gen patch is due in 2021.
I'll wait until then to re-buy it. Maybe it'll be $10 by then.

I don’t think you’ll get lower than $20. And this gen version would just be faster load times, I’m sure. Just a hell of game. That’s a freaking steal.

Next gen version will probably have raytracing, which is cool but not essential.

It's real-time/simulated lighting (essentially traces rays of light) which generally helps with the reflections - It's most noticeable in the hotline room. Otherwise it's just shiny floors with fancy reflections
Here's a video, jump to like 1m 40s into it
It looks great but it's a subtle addition

Good deal but I have a feeling this is gonna hit Gamepass. I might still pick it up cause I know GP doesn't include the DLC which would be worth it alone.

Ain’t nothing wrong with touting a game that surprised the hell out me and hooked in mere moments. It’s rare when a game can do that for me anymore. Maybe some others will give a chance and find a gem. Or a dud, completely opinion based, but you never know and at that price if you even remotely like games like these it’s best to jump while the getting is good. And it’s $20 and maybe a few hours wasted if really dislike.

Which systems do you have? Now that there's like 10 game platforms that can play it (og Xbox One, One X, One S, PS4, PS 4 Pro, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Switch via streaming, PC)

That said, the game is wicked fun, IMO. Definitely worth the $10 it'll be sometime next year. I say that as someone who paid $60 for it on launch day, and don't regret that, even if 505/Remedy thinks I'm a sucker.

I bought a new receiver recently that defaulted my pc to a 1440p/30hz resolution effectively capping it to 30 fps, I felt horrible for OG Xbox/PS4 players stuck with that.

The Ultimate Edition does, but people can still technically (accidentally...) buy the standard edition, which gets them nothing but the base game.
And, on top of that, the next gen upgrade does not, reportedly, carry your save file over if you start playing it now. It's technically a separate copy of the game... Unless they've gone back to address that part since the original announcement of the UE. In other words, there's no Smart Delivery or anything like that.

Looks like at least on the PS4 the game save is transferable
Control Ultimate Edition publisher 505 Games has clarified how you can carry over your progress from the original version of Control on PlayStation 4 to the game's newly-released Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5.
Doing so is possible, but you'll need to still have your PS4 in order to do it.
ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW
"Unfortunately, save data from the base PS4 game isn't compatible with the PS5 Ultimate Edition," a 505 Games customer service rep told Control fan cormack12, who posted the response on NeoGAF.
"The PS4 base game saves are compatible with the PS4 Ultimate Edition, however. Additionally, the PS4 Ultimate Edition is eligible for the free PS5 upgrade, in which the save data will be compatible."
This means you'll want to have the Ultimate Edition on your PS4 first to go log into so it can load your save - and then re-save it, I guess? - into a format the PS5 version of the Ultimate Edition will then work with.
ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW
As a reminder, the PS4 version of Control will work on PS5 via backwards compatibility. But only the new Ultimate Edition version of Control will get a snazzy PS5 makeover at some point next year - something 505 Games has refused to budge on despite significant fan criticism.
Earlier this week, 505 Games confirmed that Xbox versions of Control's Ultimate Edition did not contain all of the game's data, so owners will need a download to obtain the rest before they can play. This isn't the case on PS4, 505 said, where the game has benefited from "compression and other variables".
This isn't the first instance where save files have issues when moving between PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game. PS4 save files for both Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Dirt 5 will not carry over if you move to their next-gen upgrade version.
We've contacted 505 for verification of the above customer service rep, and to ask if there are any similar issues on Xbox.

But there's a Remedy.

Re: Control (Remedy) - PC/PS4/XB1 - 8/27/2019
^ that sounds like a completely unnecessary jumbled mess.
If I understand the workflow, if you already own the standard game, you have to install the UE on your PS4, load up the game so it'll recognize your save file, then install the PS4 version on your PS5 (for now), so that save can be used on the new console, then when the official PS5 version comes out in 2021, you have to install that version of the game (which still doesn't sound like a 'patch' but a completely separate download), then load it up so it sees your existing PS4 UE version of the game on your PS5 to transfer the save file to the PS5 UE version of the game, at which point you can (safely?) uninstall the PS4 version and PS4 UE versions from your PS4, and (safely?) uninstall the PS4 UE version from your PS5, leaving you with only the PS5 UE version on your PS5.
Maybe having the PS4 version and/or PS4 UE version on an external drive will make that whole process a lot easier, but I'm guessing we won't know until someone actually goes through the process. And I would expect the Xbox versions would be in a similar boat, of course, since Smart Delivery isn't being used by this publisher/dev on this game.
Sounds like fun!

That Ashtray Maze second go round when you have to solve is fucking awesome (even Jesse thinks so) with the death metal music supplied by Old Gods of Asgard. Gonna dl that from iTunes, I think. That kicked ass. So did Hiss-Tommasi kick my ass. I had to ditch that mission for later on. Perhaps when I have multi-launch. Just can’t do it now.
