Capcom let NinjaTheory have a stab at the franchise with DmC (presumably because they were out of ideas and DMC4 didn't go over entirely that well in comparison to previous entries iirc) and it was more or less a reboot of the franchise that splintered the fan-base. Seemed like half the fanbase thought it was better than DMC4 while half outright disliked it because of how Dante was changed in both looks and personality.
do I have to play 4 first then 5 or does it not matter?

I’m just going to assume probably not and jump into SE 5. I finished DmC and though different timeline, similar characters, I believe and I’m sure equally similar mechanics. Probably start this up tomorrow.

It’s not really a plot-heavy game. It’s more just action. You won’t know who the characters are, but I played the previous game and I was still pretty confused.

pretty much what I figured. I loved the hell out of DmC and this 5 is optimized and all. Should be a hoot.

This is pretty much DmC with different style. Similar moves, pulling off, silly humor, but overall an addictive and fun what 3rd person masher you would call this?

oozes style. Plays fast and very responsive controls and you need them when some moves need precise timing. But, I’ll get more into it. Just been tough lately. But I loved and finished DmC and this gives me same, wanna play, addictive vibe which I really need now to grab me for how ever long in one game.
