Game Descriptions That Will Make You Skip a Game

When I'm reading descriptions of a game on the PSN or XBOX store there are a few words that will cause me to 100% skip a game no matter how interesting the screenshots look or if I'm a fan of the genre.

My "trigger" words are:

"roguelike" (ex: Flinthook is a fast action-platformer with “roguelike” elements)

"Procedurally generated levels"

any use of the words "hardcore" or "brutal" in the description

Any words that will immediately let you know a game is not for you?

Well, kinda those ones you mentioned. Especially "roguelike". Hate those sorts of games so much (and man, I tried to love Don't Starve, I really did).

Also, while I know it's where all the sports games are headed, anything with "Build the Ultimate Team" or the equivalent is a big turn-off for me.

Free to play (especially on consoles), Souls like, the older pixel art inspired games (like Broforce), MMO, DOTA lane based games.

'Souls like' certainly makes me run for the hills. I do find anything that reads like 'Puzzle Platformer' also usually turns me away. And of course finally, anything that reads 'excruciating hard' cause I don't hate myself that much, lol.

What's funny is I don't like "Souls Like" games, but I absolutely love the Souls/Bloodborne series. Though the atmosphere/music has a lot to do with that too.

I tend to skip "procedurally generated levels", "survival", and "sandbox" as they tend to not be narratively or level driven and tend to get boring to me extremely fast.

"tower defense" and "horde" also apply as they're usually extremely repetitive. "open world" is a slight deterrent, as it usually means most of the game will be spent uneventfully getting from Point A to Point B with repetitive missions to pad out game length.

"stealth" and "duck and cover" used as descriptions of a FPS will cause me to skip it.

I never thought about this before and couldn't think of anything off the top of my head initially, but after seeing some other examples I guess "Souls Like" would be one after hating Bloodborne.

I'm fairly open otherwise depending on reviews.

Don't you need to be online to play games like Destiny or GR Wildlands already? I don't really see why that would be a deal-breaker in 2018 if you live in the United States or any other first-world country with sufficient infrastructure to have a dependable internet connection.

While this is probably true, and I'd make an exception for something like an MMORPG where gameplay revolves around it, I still have terrible memories of the last Sim City and the flimsy justification they used for it.
