Far Cry 5 Officially Announced by Ubisoft

Far Cry 5 has officially been announced by Ubisoft.

It's a pretty underwhelming announcement, though: the game has been sent out into the wider world with an empty forum and a logo, but that's about it.

You can find the forum here, and it's just starting to be populated by people eager to find out more about the upcoming adventure game.

The logo looks nice and clean, but we literally know nothing about the game yet. Nice to know it exists, and we're likely to see something more interesting about the title at this year's E3.

re: Far Cry 5 - 3/27/18

I love the language used by the Ubisoft employee

"We believe Alpha for these games needs to be one year before release," explained editorial VP Tommy Francois from Ubisoft. "We're trying to achieve that. That's super fucking blunt, I don't even know if I'm allowed to say this. This is the goal we're going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish. So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin's game or a Far Cry [in 2017], fuck it."

^^ I'll bet the board of directors is really digging that comment lol

I appreciate the candor.

LOL. That's actually the kind of staff they probably need more of, though -

It's a far cry from what Ubisoft usually tries to do with us by having us basically purchase their beta and then patching the hell out of it for the next year.

Guess I was wrong about the setting but it's gonna have to get near perfect reviews for me to bite if it's in competition with RDR 2

It doesn't look like it is. If the teasers reflect the final game, this isn't the Old West, for sure. The silos in the background:

..and the propane tank, power lines, and paved (?) road:

I haven't watched the teasers, but those stills make them look like ads for a golf course.

Yeah, that's the gag. You see something beautiful and picturesque, and it turns out there's a criminal on the run or some nutjob beating someone to death. You're not missing much by not watching them.

So an escaped "sinner" versus some radical zealot and a bunch of hillbillies? I'm IN!

Edit: weapons are modern too... now I'm double IN!

Yeah, even if it's the same FC formula as usual, the setting/theme that they're teasing is definitely gonna make me buy this right away.

If the main boss isn't a body-slamming politician, they've missed out big time.

Damn straight! And the finale would be dropping a ballot in the vote box rather than a big shootout.

I skipped Primal, but just that key art will bring me back. I'm curious how the story will explain this group taking over such a large area of US soil unchecked, but even if it's ridiculous I don't care as long as it's fun.

Me too, mostly because Primal was originally meant to be a $20 DLC (it used the same map as FC4), just like what Blood-Dragon was to FC3, but they added a few more missions to it and went ahead and made it a full-priced game.
Pure Ubisoft shenanigans.

Looks like an adaptation of Kevin Smith's Red State.

Well, Trump was able to take over the whole United States unchecked.

Some bulletpoints about the game from Gamespot (copied/pasted from NeoGAF 'cause I'm lazy):

It's the first Far Cry game set in America.
It's also playable on PS4 Pro and Project Scorpio.
You can play the entire story solo or in two-player co-op.
You play as the new junior deputy of fictional Hope County, Montana, players will find that their arrival accelerates a years-long silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult, the Project at Eden's Gate. Protagonist is customisible meaning you can choose gender and skin color
Villians name is Joseph Seed
You can fly planes and take part in aerial dogfights.
Vehicles include American muscle cars, ATVs, boats, and big rigs.
Weapons include guns, grenades, sledgehammers, and baseball bats.
You can recruit other people to fight for you.
You can also recruit animals like bears and cougars.
There is a map editor that will have "new features that add a new dimension to the content created by fans".
PS4 players are getting a free Far Cry 5 skin pack at launch.
Ubisoft Montreal is leading development, with support from Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Kiev, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Reflections.

Looks and sounds good. Glad they are expanding co-op in this one.
