Just wrapped this one. I loved it. But I totally understand why people hated it.

Re: The Last of Us: Part II (PS4, 6/19/20)

Has anyone seen the new potential meaning of the ending?
Spoiler:
Apparently someone noticed that when Ellie is back at the farm, she's wearing the bracelet from Dina which she didn't have when she left the farm to find Abby. That would imply that she had been back to Jackson and is back with Dina/the baby at the end and went back to the farm for closure; rather than that being her showing up and seeing that Dina is gone and she's all alone.

If true it certainly makes the ending brighter but if that was the dev's intentions, they didn't make it nearly clear enough to the players.

I don't know exactly why, but I'm having a real hard time getting into this. Loved the first one, but man this just feels soooo slow...

How far in are you? I agree that it feels slower than the first, mainly because the adventure isn't as urgent as in the 1st game.

Yeah, I feel like I'm halfway through - and I think they definitely needed to edit the game.

One idea I've never seen implemented in video games, but would be cool, especially in games like this, would be "deleted scenes", or rather "deleted levels". Keep the main game tight, but if there's extra content/levels, have them in a separate menu that opens up after you beat the game. I guess they repurpose a lot of that for paid DLC, but if they're cutting stuff out to keep a game tight, it would be some cool extra content.

Re: The Last of Us: Part II (PS4, 6/19/20)

I found that the second half of the game really ramped up the... immediacy... of what was going on. It's still a bit of a slog in some parts, and definitely could have been edited down, but at the cost of some character development. As this is very much a game about character, I'm not sure how much they should have cut... but some... for sure.

Re: The Last of Us: Part II (PS4, 6/19/20)

In the end my biggest complaint regarding the gameplay was that they made Seattle Day 1 very different, having a map to fill out and explore. I don't know why they abandoned that innovation to the game after that chapter. In fact, they did the same thing with trip wires. They were part of the game in a couple sections early on, then never seen again. I wanted to craft them!

^ yep! Same thing with the ropes/cables. Used a handful of times, the first couple being the most interesting.

Yeah I liked the marking of places I’d been and notes on the map thing, too. Dumb choice to abandon it. The game still rocks though.

I am playing
Spoiler:
as Abby
and I just got to the part where she
Spoiler:
almost gets hanged and the Scars help her out.
am I close to the end?

Re: The Last of Us: Part II (PS4, 6/19/20)

I just don't have a lot of time to play really long games any more. This game really dragged for me. I didn't have a problem with the ending, I just hated that it took so long to get there. It seems like sections of the game were added just to pad the play time.

Once you get to the end of Ellie Seattle Day 3, you're about half way through. Abby's Days are just as long.

Just finished this. Phenomenal game. I didn’t think the first game needed a sequel but after finishing it I’m glad they made this. Also glad
Spoiler:
Abby didn’t die. Didn’t like her in the beginning of the game but after playing her i did get a connection with her.
Just an overall epic game.

edit: this was directed at a now deleted post, but yes... redrum should remove the spoiler.
^ there's no point in spoilering it after the fact when you've quoted the spoiler, man.

Oops! My bad.

Finished it last night. Absolute masterpiece other than the ending.

Spoiler:
One of them should have died rather than the pussified ending we got. I am team Abby and didn’t want her to die, but that’s how it should have ended.

Did it bother anyone else how Ellie can't be bothered to put guitars back in the cases she found them in and just leaves them out to rot?

Didn't get this since I wasn't sure if I could complete in time for Ghost of Tsushima...sure I'll come back and get it...but SONY and PS4 is on a roll right now.....

Re: The Last of Us: Part II (PS4, 6/19/20)

Finished this afternoon. While I wasn't initially on board with
Spoiler:
playing as Abby

it certainly ended up being way more interesting than I thought it would be. On the ending,
Spoiler:
I think back to Abby telling Ellie that she spared her and she wasted it. She was kind of right. And, in the end I think she (Ellie) realized that it wouldn't fix anything.

I wonder if there will be a part 3 or maybe some DLC that gives more background on
Spoiler:
the rattlers and maybe expand on the re-grouped Fireflies

.

I don’t think this is true because why would all of
Spoiler:
her stuff be still in the room?

Re: The Last of Us: Part II (PS4, 6/19/20)

Isn't it all of
Spoiler:
Joel's stuff (or stuff related to Joel) in that room? I saw the interpretation of the ending, where it point's out the bracelet that Ellie is wearing and that she's healed up and weaponless. So some time has passed. I could see her leaving that stuff behind because of the memories and that scene is her closing that chapter.
